From D. Gregory, beautiful Bougainvillea, which makes me all nostalgic about growing up in SoCal, especially the wine dark one. And from rq, gorgeous peonies! Click for full size.
Oh the bougainvillea -- the blossoms are delicate, so thin, like paper, but the plants themselves are serious tough, and grow huge. When I was little, I called them matchstick flowers, because of the resemblance to match sticks before the little white flowers pop.

Ugh, hope your toes get better soon! :/
And yes, I saw these for the first time this May when work sent me to Barcelona -- had no idea what it was, the tiny little white flowers were just popping open, but the colour is stunning, absolutely eye-catching within all the green. Huge, too! Gorgeous.

Ack! I didn’t send you the poppies yet, these are my peonies! Two of many sorts. :) Sorry for being unclear. :/
Love the colour on that bougainvillea. And now I know what I saw in Barcelona those many weeks ago -- they’re so delicate-looking!

Fixed. I thought they looked like peonies, but I’m more medicated than usual -- two badly broken toes, so brain not work so well.
