    :) It’s a lifetime skill, all pow wow dancers start when they are very young (there’s always a tiny tots category at wacipis, starts at 2 or 3 years old). Hoop dancing is very exacting, takes a lot of skill.

    Hoop dancing, it symbolizes the circle, the medicine wheel, central to much of indigenous peoples’ beliefs. Everything is contained within the circle, the four directions, the cycle of nature (seasons), the elements, and the life cycle, birth to death.

    Now I’m mad that work computer doesn’t allow video play. I’ll have to remember to take a look when I get home.
    But the photos of the kids are adorable! So very colourful! I especially like the second one, with the eyes closed -- though I’m not sure if that’s concentration or an inadvertent blink (not that it matters).

    She’s got the flair for sure!
    As for the hoop dancing, wooow. Every time I thought he’d lost a hoop, there it was in his hand again. Wow.
