I’m making a stir-fry tonight with vegetables I picked up at the Greenmarket on Saturday. I pick up whatever they have on hand that happens to strike my fancy, which changes seasonally and with my mood. Rinsing the vegetables just now, I realized I have the makings of a rainbow:
RED = bell pepper
ORANGE = carrots
YELLOW = squash
GREEN = broccoli
PURPLE = cauliflower
I am sorely tempted to add some food coloring to my rice to turn it blue.
OMG I could plate each vegetable in a single row and make a rainbow flag! Dinner party menu for next year’s Pride, for sure. :D
I like blueberries for dessert.
Leave out the pepper and substutue steak tartare for the red please?
This afternoon I bought carrots, green beans and green peas from the travelling garden lady.
I doubt any of it will last long enough to be cooked.
I’m gonna have to tweak this:
Bell Peppers for Red & Yellow. Carrots for Orange. Cucumbers for Green. Blue is gonna be tricky–blue corn is about the most authentic I could find. (Sadly, no one cares about poor Indigo.) Bizarrely, red onions or cabbage will work nicely for Violet.
For a fruit salad version:
Strawberries, Mandarin orange wedges, bananas, green grapes, blueberries, blackberries (indigo at last!), purple grapes.
We bought corn at the Farmer’s Market.
It’s boiling now
Can you smell it?
