Climategate Part II

Actual NASA temperature record

Another batch of emails stolen from CRU has been released, but so far wingnut miners dredging for propaganda gold have been disappointed. Interest is already ebbing given the worst anyone can come up with so far are two out of context quotes below, neither of which are quite the smoking gun our usual suspects pine for:

(Link) — “I find myself in the strange position of being very skeptical of the quality of all present [climate] reconstructions,” one researcher is quoted as having allegedly remarked.
Another remark reads: “What if climate change appears to be just mainly a multidecadal natural fluctuation? They’ll kill us probably.”

Here’s a reminder of how easy it to present info out of context and cook up a fake scandal.

How about all the emails where the dispassionate skeptical scientists repeatedly make reference to “the cause” i.e. this or that would “hurt the cause” or something else would be “good for the cause”?

That alone shows that they have their conclusion already and are selectively looking for evidence to fit the conclusion. Shall we lump them in with creationists now?

Most of the skeptics I read don’t behave like scientists. Even if they are scientists. Mostly what I see are marketing gimmicks, tricks, and lawyer talk. So yeah, I think it’s fair to lump them in with creationists at this point.

Does anyone know how the criminal investigation of this computer crime is going? I haven’t seen anything about Scotland Yard looking for the thieves.
