The Opposition Party

You’re the opposition party, so your role is to oppose
If you do it well, you save us from disaster;
But “we’ll try to work together, on some issues, I suppose”
Is a way to get to Armageddon faster.

Remember, we’re the ones who think the Earth is nearly round—
Your opponents think the Earth is mostly flat;
If you give them partial credit cos their sentence structure’s sound
You’ll declare “the world is oval—that is that!”.

When the opposition party thinks its role is to appease
Then the ones who hold the power make the laws
Cos the opposition grovels, and it bargains, and says “please”
While the rulers know they’re ruling “just because”.

Just because they have no boundaries; just because they have no rules
Just because they won’t be challenged when they lie;
Just because the opposition are afraid to use their tools
Just because we all ignore when people die.

Know that none of this is normal; you’re not crazy, nor alone;
Your emotions might be jumbled and confusing
While I know that you are hurting, and are weary to the bone,
Playing dead is not the right response to losing

You’re the opposition party, so your role is to oppose
If you do it well, you save us from disaster;
So “we’ll try to work together, on some issues, I suppose”
Is a way to get to Armageddon faster.
