Since he hasn’t been flogged for so long, you wonder if they are just keeping him prisoner now to save face, because otherwise it would be admitting they were wrong? Most theocratic types I know have a very difficult time admitting they’re wrong. Maybe they worry that would mean admitting they aren’t really hearing God’s voice, but are just following their own human ideas. That would be only one step away from having to wonder WHY they aren’t hearing God’s voice, and why they thought they did.
