Diablo III is … Alive

Diablo III, the third Boston album of the video game world — to date myself and coin a phrase — is ALIVE (Cue dramatic chipmunk). When the first Diablo premiered ‘lo these many real-world years ago, it was quickly followed by an even more successful, Diablo II. But with the sole exception of an expansion called Lord of Destruction, there was a long, long silence in the world of Prime Evil … until now!

My buddies at WowInsider are on the case with a round up linkfest of reported pre/installer issues:

As Diablo 3 installers start running today (even though you can install the game, you can’t play until midnight PST), a host of issues have cropped up. Most of these can be solved by commonsense troubleshooting techniques, but some others are a bit more evil …

It should have come out 10 years ago. By all the accounts I’ve read, it’s graphics and storyline look 10 years old.

I’m probably going to buy it anyway.

yeah, I guess you have to like that style of play, which I don’t. I won’t be buying this either I don’t think. Didn’t buy WoW either so…

Waiting for Bioshock 3 to arrive, though I’m sad it isn’t more fun in the underwater city.

I would have bought it, were it not for the insanely stupid always-online DRM. (And yes, I know Blizzard claim that it’s not really DRM to require everyone to be connected to their server all the time in single-player mode. If anyone here believes that, I’ve got a bridge they might be interested in buying to go with it.)

If you recall, there actually was a third Boston album. It sucked. but then the second did too.

Here’s what a band with actual talent and creativity can do in the mid 2000’s with a song from that same era:

I played with several friends last night it’s more fun than I had been willing to credit it. The DRM is stupid, and I’m so used to WASD for movement that I don’t much care for the point and click controls.

The graphics are crisp, and look good on my Alienware. As for story…I couldn’t tell you what it is. Most dungeon-runners don’t have much story and this one doesn’t seem too different.
