They want to claim vaccines are a bioweapon now

Well, hello there, Minnesota Republicans. You just had to pop your little heads up and prove to the world that you are ignorant, stupid, or insane. Behold, HF 3219, the mRNA Bioweapons Prohibition Act:

A bill for an act
relating to public safety; designating mRNA injections and products as weapons
of mass destruction; prohibiting mRNA injections and products; proposing coding
for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 609.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. SHORT TITLE.
This act may be known as the “mRNA Bioweapons Prohibition Act.”

Sec. 2. [609.7121] MRNA BIOWEAPONS PROHIBITION.
Subdivision 1. Legislative intent. It is the intent of the legislature to designate mRNA
injections and products as weapons of mass destruction according to section 609.712 and
to prohibit possession or distribution of the mRNA injections and products in the state.
Subd. 2. Definitions. (a) For purposes of this section, the following terms have the
meanings given.
(b) “mRNA injections and products” means:

(1) with regards to the COVID injections, mRNA or “modified” messenger RNA as
related to the gene altering agents. The structure was altered by substituting two
N-methyl-pseudouridine amino acids for the usual uridine components so as to elude immune
destruction of the mRNA, which then allows the mRNA that produces the pathogenic Spike
protein to exist within cells for a longer period of time;

(2) all injections or products containing mRNA or “modified” messenger RNA;

(3) any human gene therapy product for any infectious disease indication, regardless of
whether the administration is termed an immunization, vaccine, or any other term; or

(4) nanotechnology or nanoparticles that alter genes and create a biosynthetic cell
replication.

For the purposes of this section, mRNA does not mean naturally occurring mRNA defined
as messenger ribonucleic acid that is a single-stranded molecule of RNA that corresponds
to the genetic sequence of a gene.

(c) “State or local government official” means the governor, attorney general, state
attorneys, county sheriffs, and other state and local law enforcement.

Subd. 3. Crime. Whoever knowingly manufactures, acquires, possesses, or makes readily
accessible to another mRNA injections and products is guilty of a crime and may be
sentenced as provided under section 609.712.
Subd. 5. State or local government official. A state or local government official must
use all lawful means necessary to enforce this section. A state or local government official
who does not enforce or investigate a violation under subdivision 3 when provided with
reasonable evidence of a violation is guilty of a crime and subject to the same penalties as
a person violating that subdivision.
Subd. 6. Civil action. A resident of the state may seek injunctive relief, declaratory
relief, and monetary damages from the state or a state and local government official for lack
of enforcement of this section.

Yep, they are designating mRNA vaccines as bioweapons, bioweapons of mass destruction, no less, and you can get up to 20 years in prison for manufacturing, possessing, distributing, or administering mRNA vaccines. This nonsense legislation has been peddled to legislatures all around the country by a guy named Joseph Sansone, a psychotherapist with a bug up his butt about vaccines.

You don’t believe me? Perhaps you will trust a far-right MAGA site that has all the assertions.

Minnesota Statutes § 609.712 criminalizes the development, possession, or use of weapons of mass destruction, including biological agents, recombinant or synthetic nucleic acids, and delivery systems that may cause widespread death, serious injury, or disruption to public safety. The statute defines “biological agents” broadly to include any virus or genetically engineered element capable of causing disease or biological malfunction in humans.

By referencing this statute, the legislature affirms that mRNA-based injections—particularly those using modified nucleosides to produce synthetic Spike proteins or alter gene expression—fit the statutory definition of a biological agent capable of mass harm. This bill, therefore, applies the existing legal framework of § 609.712 to classify and prohibit such products under criminal law within the state of Minnesota.

According to the peer-reviewed literature and the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), the COVID-19 mRNA injections have caused widespread harm and death. In fact, they are estimated to have killed more people than 121 Hiroshima nuclear bombings:

Filing this bill would not have been possible without the critical work of Dr. Joseph Sansone, who originally drafted the model legislation on which this bill is based. His tireless advocacy and early legal framework helped pave the way for states like Minnesota to take bold action against experimental gene-based technologies.

WHO estimates about 15 million excess deaths worldwide from the COVID epidemic, so according to this quack, there were more people killed by the vaccine than by the virus, as determined by abuse of VAERS statistics.

That’s enough for a bevy of state politicians, every one of them a Republican, to propose criminalizing a useful and successful vaccine.

There have been no hearings on this bill yet, and it hasn’t passed beyond the demented MAGA masturbation stage. Let’s hope the stupidity dies a quick and painful death.

In Realityland, the Covid-19 mRNA vaccines saved the lives of 3.2 million Americans. One of which was probably myself, a Boomer with multiple risk factors who has been vaccinated 5 times so far.
They were a huge modern medical advance that wouldn’t have been possible even a decade or two ago.

In the USA, 400,000 antivaxxers, mostly Republicans died unnecessarily from what became a preventable viral infection because they refused the Covid-19 antiviral vaccines.

Being stupid and ignorant and an antivaxxer can and does kill people.
We’ve seen three dead from measles in just the last month.

    Who is this guy?
I didn’t recognize the name but there are so many antivaxxer quacks, they sort of just blend in with the background.

They are right about one thing! The RNA vaccine against Covid does have those changes in order to evade early destruction of the RNA. It has MANY other clever features that help it to be more effective, including the use of an an alternative form of Uracil. This very readable article about those features is strongly recommended: https://berthub.eu/articles/posts/reverse-engineering-source-code-of-the-biontech-pfizer-vaccine/. When this came out, at the height of the pandemic, I just about cried it was so goddamm beautiful.

  7. Hemidactylus says

Uggh! What continually frustrates me as a both sides thing is that nobody is talking about affinity maturation. It involves changes in genes and happens regardless if the agent is a vaccine (even non-mRNA based) or pathogen. If it didn’t happen the microbes would win because their life cycles are on orders of magnitude shorter than ours. Awesome trick resulting in a form of adaptive evolution within our own lifetimes that happens quite often. Vaccines help our immune systems do their own research and largely avoid the whole infection and illness thing if sufficient numbers of people are vaccinated. Now herd immunity is becoming a thing of the past because collective ignorance is spreading.

Unfortunately knuckle dragging dumbfucks like RFK Jr, Minnesota Republicans, and all the other fearmongers are itching to get a promising new vaccine technology kicked to the curb.

mRNA vaccines suck badly as a bioweapon. Why am I still alive after multiple exposures?

Thankfully there are protein based COVID vaccines. I wound up receiving one last time around because no mRNA vaccines were available. The not so fun side effects of mRNA COVID shots were much milder. That was a plus. Not sure on efficacy though.

Hopefully the protein based COVID shots and other traditional vaccines will remain available in the future. I had just recently had an odd tangent convo with a coworker about Bieber’s facial palsy. I looked it up and the condition Ramsay Hunt syndrome is chickenpox related. Bieber was born in 1994. Chickenpox vaccinations became available a year or so later. I couldn’t find anything definitive on Bieber’s vaccination status. My assumption is that kids stopped getting chickenpox as often afterward which would reduce greatly the chances of shingles later in life. I dunno if in the distant future when those kids become elderly whether shingles shots will still be encouraged as an immunity boost. Wait…if antivaxxers have their way chickenpox exposure parties with the superior natural immunity (never mind the lifelong dormant virus in your neurons) will become the replacement to a wonderful vaccine. Fuck I hate this timeline!

  8. Hemidactylus says

Wow I am amazed this page is still up:
    https://www.cdc.gov/chickenpox/vaccines/index.html

There can still be breakthrough infections. I wonder if shingles might be possible in the future in those cases.

    From the site (for now):

The chickenpox vaccine is safe, and it is effective at protecting against chickenpox. Vaccines, like a medicine, can have side effects. These are usually mild and go away on their own.

Two doses of the vaccine are about 90% effective at preventing chickenpox. When you get vaccinated, you protect yourself and others in your community, especially people who cannot get vaccinated. Since the chickenpox vaccination program began in the United States, there has been over 97% decrease in chickenpox cases. Hospitalizations and deaths have become rare.

  9. Hemidactylus says

Well ok the vaccine form of chickenpox may lie dormant in our nerves:
    https://www.chop.edu/vaccine-education-center/vaccine-details/varicella-vaccine

Like the natural virus, the vaccine virus can also live silently in the nervous system. However, it has been shown that the varicella vaccine virus is much less likely to reawaken and, that when it reawakens, it is much less likely to cause severe shingles compared with natural varicella virus. This makes sense because the varicella vaccine virus is much, much weaker than the natural virus.

The important question to ask yourself is: Would you rather have the more destructive, “wild type” virus reawaken later in life, or the weakened virus contained in the vaccine? Also, since the introduction of the varicella vaccine in 1996, the incidence of shingles in the United States has decreased.

And I’m assuming this is authoritative:
    https://historyofvaccines.org/blog/chickenpox-vaccine-and-shingles-risk

A kinda uncool consequence of vaccination for a window of time for those of us harboring dormant virus?

The varicella vaccine has an excellent safety track record, and has been largely successful in making chickenpox in the United States a disease that not a lot of healthcare providers treat as it is estimated by CDC that up to 3.5 million cases of chickenpox are prevented each year with the vaccine. Those of us who contracted chickenpox “the natural way” are at increased risk of shingles (also known as “Zoster” or “Herpes Zoster”). This is because the varicella virus becomes dormant after a natural infection, embedding itself in the nerves near the spinal cord. Before the vaccine was available, people contracting chickenpox would fight it off to the point of making the virus dormant. Almost every year, a person would have their immune system “boosted” when they came into contact with a person (usually a child) with chickenpox. That boosting effect would make sure that the dormant virus remained so. It used to be that people who contracted chickenpox as children and then would later develop some immune-compromising disease or condition would be at highest risk for shingles. This is because their immune system would be compromised and unable to keep the virus at bay if it “awoke” from being dormant. Because of the high effectiveness of the vaccine, those of us who had the infection are no longer being boosted because we don’t come into contact with children with the disease as often, if at all. As we grow older, the dormant virus may become active. Because we haven’t been boosted, there are less memory cells left to remember how to fight off the infection. This leads to the skin condition known as shingles.

And again I am assuming the rational is correct in this one which overlaps with the previous link:
    https://elifesciences.org/for-the-press/1ccc3639/chickenpox-vaccination-does-increase-shingles-cases-but-mainly-in-young-adults

Vaccinating one-year-olds against chickenpox could temporarily nearly double the incidence of shingles in the wider population, but in younger adults than previously thought.

The effect occurs because vaccination reduces the likelihood of adults who experienced chickenpox as a child being re-exposed to the virus. Re-exposure boosts immunity to shingles, caused by the same virus, Varicella-zoster virus.

Kinda interesting if true. If someone knows better please chime in.

I ran across some of this weirdness from this Joe Sansone guy about 2 years back, and did some digging to figure out who he was and why he might have such whacky views on vaccines. Turns out the source that got me started was this PZ Myers guy, with whom you may be acquainted!

He had fed Republicans info the led them to a resolution to ban mRNA vaccines altogether, using words like “genocide” and “biological weapons”, claims that Pfizer lied about “death count” in the Comirnaty trials, and that all this constituted a “violation of the Nuremburg code”. (Typically grandiose thinking that often accompanies delusions!)

He’s licensed in Florida as a therapist, but… he emphasizes hypnosis, only in-person/no telehealth, and prefers cash payment instead of insurance. He got a doctorate from Sofia University, a private for-profit university. It grew out of the California Institute of Transpersonal Psychology; transpersonal psychology is a fringe theory about integrating therapy with spiritual beliefs. (While I am personally religious, that is not what therapy is about!)

So he emphasizes hypnosis and cash payments, has a degree from what looks like a very fishy “university”, and mixes his religious preferences with client therapy.

    Really looks whacky.

If this bill and similar ones in other states should pass, I think it’ll be time to start a new dead pool. Measles, Covid, salmonella, listeria, mercury or carbon dioxide, for example.

Funny enough, people “skeptical” of vaccines all know a lot of people who died from it, while people who know that vaccines are generally safe don’t.
BTW, my BFF was diagnosed with “vaccine side effects” right until she died of undetected cancer…

  19. John Watts says

Item 4 is also a head scratcher: nanotechnology or nanoparticles that alter genes and create a biosynthetic cell replication.
I had to do an AI search to learn that this is an actual thing, up to a point. “Nanotechnology can be used to alter genes by delivering genetic material into cells, enabling precise modifications through techniques like CRISPR.” But, how it’s related to the insidious mRNA bioweapons is unexplained. It also doesn’t explain why biosynthetic cell replication is a bad thing.

  20. Kagehi says

The truly stupid thing about this, of course, is that its the “old” type of vaccine that caused problems, not the new one. But, yeah, why should they give a F about facts, like the fact that the older style vaccine, which was almost immediately halted, contains the literal entire virus, and thus can, in the process of being taken apart by the body, even when dead, actually spill out genetic data, which hangs around and causes long term harm. Who cares that we “know”, and have known, this is the case, as referenced above with varicella. Who cares if some idiots around the world still use a live version of some vaccines that, while they are eradicated in the US, still exist in the dark corners of the world, and could come back. Lets not come up with a better thing. Nope, lets let quacks and nut cases panic over it and try to pass laws declaring the “safest” solution a bioweapon… Freaking!!!

I hate that this world is looking more and more like the version of Star Trek future in which the first contact involves some combo of a dystopian future, with a giant statue of a mad eugenicist, and/or the immediate shooting and theft of the spaceship of the first aliens we contact, because, instead of talking to them the “hero” assumes the worst, immediately murders them, and steals their technology, only to then create some variation of the Terran Empire.

Seriously, even if we kick most of these nuts out, due to all but the most isolated idiots in the country starting to realize how anti-normal Republicans have become, how much of the fringe idiocy will persist past their downfall anyway, and have to be fought against for decades, if not centuries, after?

Yep, exactly that is the issue. In the meantime, all the scientists who know how to make say solar panels, or create vaccines against infectious agents or cancer, will have left the US for France or Norway. It’s not too hard imagining the US ending up a bit like Afghanistan or Congo in the not too distant future.

  22. seachange says

Shingrix doesn’t seem to be an mRNA vaccine? I am seeing some attempts to make a measles vaccine that is mRNA-based.

For a decade or so there was a much larger pool of varicella, among people dying of AIDS. It was common for these folks who we were helping to acquire shingles as their immune systems became compromised. To me this was a huge pool of hosts in which there was room for mutation.

I’ve had every dose of the plague vaccine and booster shots since they were first available. I have noticed a few side effects, but nothing fatal. But I’m still alive, so this bill is false.
