The Daily Show on the Fox News election meltdown

Fox News had a terrible night on Tuesday, as the realization slowly sank in that the hermetically sealed world in which they lived, where everyone hated Barack Obama and were just waiting for the chance to throw him and his Muslim-socialist ways out the door, had been breached, and the harsh winds of reality entered and chilled them to the bone. Needless to say, The Daily Show was not going to let them forget it.

And now the blame game begins…

(These clips appeared on November 7, 2012. To get suggestions on how to view clips of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report outside the US, please see this earlier post.)

They do it practically all the time. It forms a major part of their appeal to a large segment of their audience that is absolutely convinced that there is a liberal media-gay-minority-Democratic conspiracy being waged against ‘real’ Americans.

    Hi,

I enjoyed that DS clip quite a bit.

Always good to be introspective. In 2010 the US House results were markedly different. I wonder if Fox at that time spoke of ‘reality setting in’ while Ms. Maddow came up with reality denying excuses?

I don’t know as I haven’t looked them up, but I suspect it went something like that. Just basic human psychology to want to be part of the winning group.

On a side note, below this box where I am entering text there are a couple of options.

The first two seem suspiciously similar to me, as the word “subscribe” in the first is a link to where you can do that.

I don’t know as I haven’t looked them up, but I suspect it went something like that.

And that’s the problem in a nutsack. Folks like Steve314 don’t have to look up anything or check whether their opinions and ideas have anything to do with the real world. They just suspect or feel things, and that is good enough for them. No wonder they are frequently surprised when reality smacks them on the head.

    Wow, didn’t see that coming.

So grendelsfather, from one post you you can surmise “..Folks like Steve314..just suspect or feel things, and that is good enough for them.”

I’m sure you have some good data to back that up and weren’t just “feeling” it, right?

    Enough silliness, ok?

    I clearly said “I don’t know…”

I thought that conjecture on a discussion forum might generate some discussion on the topic rather than using my name in the same reply as “nutsack”.

That being said, you did inspire me to look up some Maddow, Stewart and Fox clips from November 3, 2010.

Maddow seemed to focus on how the new Repub majority would be unwilling to compromise. Stewart mostly picked on how Fox was sticking with a narrative about incumbents despite its not being true. Both of these were very valid, but both really ignored the fact that the Dems suffered their worst off-election year results in the Congress since 1938.

Fox, of course, largely paraded the results as a referendum on Obama, showing that the country agreed with them.

But, by all means, neither Maddow or Stewart were as reality denying as Fox was on November 6th.

I don’t offer this as any notable insight -- I really just enjoy this blog and thought it might be fun to participate.
