Offending religious people

I think that the easiest job in the world is one that involves offending religious people. If such a job opens up, I will apply for it in a flash.

Recall the recent event in which some high school students at a journalism conference walked out on Dan Savage when he pointed out that the Bible was a major source of anti-gay sentiment. Savage later apologized for some of his language and for denigrating the students who walked out but not for the ideas expressed. [Read more…]

Benefit corporations

One of the problems of capitalism (at least I see it as a problem) is that its only fiduciary duty is to the shareholders. In other words, its business practices have to have the prime purpose of maximizing the returns to its investors, consistent with the existing laws. This makes sense, in a narrow way. Allowing sociopaths and war criminals to gloat

In any just society, former CIA operative Jose Rodriquez would be charged as a war criminal, put on trial, and if convicted, sentenced to a long prison term for carrying out torture and then destroying evidence.

President Obama comes out in support of same sex marriage

I have been critical of Obama for a lot of things but I have to credit him on this. It is true that the tide is turning in favor of allowing same sex marriage but it is still a controversial topic and he could have punted it until after the election.

It partially takes away the bitterness left by the North Carolina vote.
