I’m getting out to vote this afternoon, and generally my choices are straightforward. I’m voting for Peggy Flanagan for the US Senate; she’s vying with Angie Craig, who has made some bad decisions, for instance, pandering to the crypto boys. Flanagan will be a good progressive.
For my local state representative, I will vote for practically anyone against the horrid Republican, Michelle Fischbach. She’s probably going to win, because we live in a deep red district, but we’ve got to choose between two DFL candidates, Erik Osberg and Steve Carlson. I’m voting for Osberg, a 54 year old kid, rather than Carlson, who is too old for the job at 75. Carlson is also a fanatical anti-choice advocate which is sufficient to make me detest him.
Probably the highest profile race is for Governor. We have a swarm of 7 people trying to serve as our DFL leader. I worry that one pair will get a significant number of votes purely on the basis of their names: Ole “Viking” Savior and Ashley “Skol” Johnson. Every election we get some weird fringe candidates, and having the name “Johnson” and a Scandinavian connection always gives an unearned boost. I think Amy Klobuchar is going to steamroll everyone else — she has the election machine. I know that ridiculous clown, Mike Rindell, is on the Republican side, and he might get that nomination, but I don’t think he has chance in the main election in November.
I don’t expect any drama from a Minnesota election, but we’ll do our duty.
I’m about to start some data entry of canvass returns collected in advance of a local (Edinburgh) council byelection. Two SNP councillors won seats as MSPs (Members of the Scottish Parliament, “Holyrood”) and resigned their council seats (legally, they could have stayed on as the main council election will take place next May and holding both posts is permitted for just over a year, but I think they were right to do so). We (Scottish Green Party) think we have good chances of taking those seats after our great Holyrood results, as a prelude to (we hope) becoming the largest party on the council next May and perhaps leading the administration. But even if we do become the largest party, that will depend on how other parties do, and who is prepared to support, or take support from, whom. Currently the council is led by Labour, propped up by the Liberal Democrats and Tories (yes, Tories – all the unionist (anti-independence) parties club together to keep us and the SNP out). Next year, Farage’s Reform party is likely to win some seats, and who leads the council may depend on whether the other unionist parties are prepared to ally with fascists.
I really hope that Rindell wins his Republican primary. The thought of the train wreck that his general election campaign would be is just too tempting to pass up. I don’t usually go in for schadenfreude, but for him I will absolutely make an exception.
Oprah is just another moronic celebrity. In addition to promoting quacks, she has also endorsed multiple psychic frauds (redundant) because she is so stunningly ignorant about science, and reality in general. I wouldn’t be surprised if she also considers the fairies and leprechaun to be real. She does think that angles are real, but I don’t know where she stands on demons. She claims to provide profound “advice” for businesswomen.

Primaries here in Cheeseland too. I got up bright and early earlier and got to the polls where I voted in the Democratic primary and cast my vote for Francesca Hong.
Trump’s DOJ sent 20 officials to “monitor” polling places in Minnesota today. Could be that they’re hoping for some drama.

Some races have been called. Pillowman did not win, though it’s notable that the GOP winner who will lose to Klobuchar in the election is also a woman. I don’t think MN has had a woman Governor
Klobuchar as expected, won the Dem Governor slot by an overwhelming margin. Erik Osberg also won.
Still waiting on Flanagan vs Craig, though Flanagan is currently leading and I hope she wins.
