I still dream about cephalopods, even if the arachnids are snaring most of my attention.
Via special request by @SarahMackAttack, reposting this spectacular brief encounter w/ Taningia danae (also known as Taning's Octopus squid) ROV SuBastian was descending on a pervious #NingalooCanyon expedition dive! More info in thread that follows: pic.twitter.com/GNHedtvSqg

Hey, PZ, watching this made me think of the Tully Monster & I was wondering if you had an expert (or even casual) opinion on what that thing is. A mollusk not entirely unrelated to cephalopods seems like a reasonable interpretation to me, but I don’t know anything about biology…

Crip Dyke,
Last I heard was some were proposing the Tully Monster was a stem chordate.

My favorite part of the Wiki entry was “Not to be confused with Telly Monster,” who is, of course, a Muppet.
Wouldn’t want to confuse those too — if the news media heard that Muppet fossils had been discovered…

Good to know you haven’t completely abandoned cephalopods.

Must be an older squid. It left it’s turn signal on.
