Two sisters in Sulaimanya city

Someone tagged me in this Facebook post a couple of hours ago. I have no idea what the answer to the final question is.

Sorry for tagging you dear friends; but it is worth.
Yesterday two sisters (aged 16 and 18) were found killed and drowned in water in a district called Said Sadiq in Sulaimanya city. It is just a drop of the sea of crimes….
Can you imagine that you hear your neighbor’s cry when she is killed by her brother/father/husband/uncle/ or any male relative? Can you experience that more than 30000 women of “your country” are killed under the pretext of “honour”? It doesn’t need that you come and visit Kurdistan to experience that; watch it in some of the media and react. Being a “feminist”, how would you react to that femicide? We need an action against the government in Kurdistan. We need a struggle against the culture and religion which dishonour women in this way…… What can we do?

I wish I knew.

I don’t know what we can do either, but this sort of thing has been going on far too long. After I read your post a search I tried revealed a UN document from 2009 (http://mptf.undp.org/document/download/5229). Regrettably no firm answers but some additional background on this serious issue that you and your readers may not have seen before.

Until it stops being called honor killing and is called what it is, murder, nothing will be done. What possible excuse is worth mentioning when discussing murder other than self defense, by which I mean defense of life and nothing else. Take out the word “honor” and suddenly everyone knows what to do about murder. Of course then you’re talking about whole societies predicated on murder. The scary question is, who has the will to do something about that?

religion and culture , are you american ? because the statistics on rape and cheating are so high in USA , and Islam is the fastest growing religion like or not , and most of the converts are women

@ ^ ahmad saku : Citatation badly needed -esp. for that last part.

Even if true what ‘s the relevance here?

Islam may be growing in a lot of very poor and struggling Third World nations because of their extreme population growth and the fact that tadults there have many children (and no access to contraception, good education and family planning) most born into dreadful circumstances of poverty, diseases ,war and disasters often caused or excaerbated by the dominant Islamic ideology and its inability to get along with other groups and cultures.

We need a struggle against the culture and religion which dishonour women in this way…… What can we do?

Keep speaking out, keep raising awareness, keep fighting for what we believe in and know is right and not being silenced by idiots who try to make those who speak up for the victims of Islam and the appalling dishonourable cultures it creates and enables where some people and groups incl. the more than half of Humanity that is female are treated so horrendously.

..into the supposedly bad guys because we aren’t culturally sensitive and respectful to cultures that deserve no respect and are brutally insenstive and barbarically cruel to those of lesser status within their culture and outside it.
