Married to a porn star? You're fired

A town manager in Florida was fired for his connections to porn – not making his own, but being married to someone who did.

Wait, what?

“Scott, who married Anabela in October, was fired at an emergency meeting Tuesday after the mayor and council members learned the nature of her employment. Scott, the town manager for 15 months, was unanimously voted out, terminated with six months pay.

The firing came after Anabela, who goes by the stage name Jazella Moore, was recognized by an editor of an online adult entertainment publication after a photo of the couple on the Fourth of July parade was published in the local paper.

Fort Myers Beach Mayor Larry Kiker said, “Our issue is the situation town was put in in terms of how effective we can govern and whether or not it this was going to serve as a distraction for that, and we felt like it would.””

It would be wrong for a town council to fire someone because they had been in porn, but it sadly wouldn’t surprise me. America has such Puritan values when it comes to sex, especially using sex to make money. But firing someone for being married to a porn star? Does any connection to porn automatically make someone unfit to perform his or her job? What if it had been Scott’s sister; would he still be to blame?

If this is really all there is to the story, I hope someone offers this man a job.

*I* hope there’s a nice huge lawsuit in another of our grand american traditions…;)

Yeah, definitely grounds to sue. Reminds me of high school-level conversations about people’s futures… guess there *is* a downside to being married to a porn star.

I can say that there’s no wrong on marrying a porn star as long as they love each other no one can break that. Its sad to know that other people don’t realize that thing and they treat porn stars as dirty which is not true because in some countries they are legal. It is the same in such an issue with the gays and lesbians who are being treated not equal.

I’m Canadian. But I find America fascinating because it’s just so….fucked up. While I could write a book about what we Canadians think of the States–both good and bad–I’ll just point out something relevant to this above article. Jen points out that America is very puritanical about sex. This is only partly true. There is another side to the coin. My girlfriend recently introduced me to 2 and 1/2 Men. This comedy is the highest rated sitcom on American television and it is amazing what they get away with in regards to sex. The most famous episode of Seinfeld is about the four main characters betting on who can hold out the longest without masturbating. I mention these tv shows not because I watch much tv–I actually don’t–but it is a good barometer for pop culture in the US. America is a nation torn. Liberals will whine about sexual puritanicalism and conservatives will whine about the moral fabric of America going to hell. Often literally. America is not one nation so much as two. Judging by pop culture: tv, music, movies, etc. is it not obvious that one side is clearly winning…?
