The best mug ever is beautiful. The second best mug, on the other hand, I’d never use because the octopus would get in the way of stirring in the cream and sugar.

Urban Outfitters has a long history of anti-gay and gay-exploitative advertising and practices. They also funnel money from their company to anti-gay politicians and campaigns. All of that, coupled with their numerous, merciless, flagrant thefts from independent artists on Etsy and elsewhere online, deserves a hardline boycott from the LGBT, skeptical, and atheist communities. Please don’t buy that mug.

Good to know, Reed Braden! I shall strike it from any lists of potential gifts.
(The best mug ever, however, has no such ethical baggage. And it can be found via the “Cuttlestuff” link above.)

Delurking to say you can buy the octopus mug from ThinkGeek.com (and it’s only $9.99 vs. the $16.00 Urban Outfitters is charging). I bought one from them a few months ago. I love it, but it does have one design flaw: liquid gets trapped under the octopus, especially when it’s been run through the dishwasher, so after it’s been washed it needs some time sitting upright in order for the trapped water to run back out again. Not a big deal, and it could just be a flaw in my particular mug. They have a shark version, too.

Yay! And thinkgeek has been one of the sponsors of Donors Choose, so it’s nice to support good folks.
