Oh, and will somebody please tell the chap on the right that he’s lost his shopping bags.

  2. chasstewart says

It was just the best place for a picture but i should have anticipated that. I thought people would be upset by the shirts, honestly.

  3. tonyinbatavia says

Well, I get that this has something to do with an incident a coupla years back that showed just how heinous too many in the atheist community are, but I have to say I honestly don’t get this. Is it supposed to be funny? A commentary? A slam on Rebecca, the Skepchicks, PZ, A+rs, and the rest of FTBullies/the fun-ruiners? Seriously, what’s the point?

  4. chigau (違う) says

It’s because none of the Slymepitters want to do anything in Meatspace.
They want to do all of their Activicism® from the safety of Twitter.

  5. Wowbagger, Designated Snarker says

If I was only now looking into what the atheist community was about, I almost certainly would have been turned away from the overwhelming amount of toxic bullshit and proliferation of assholes both deliberate and accidental – something this picture is a good illustration of – within it. I’ve been to a couple of atheist conferences, but there’s no way in hell I’d go near another one if it wasn’t explicitly anti-asshole.

  6. says

I can’t make out what the shirts say in that picture. I don’t think I ran in to them at SK6 to have noticed either. But the elevator line is easy to make out. So that makes it pretty easy to guess which is more likely to be noticed and ruffle feathers.
Apparently Chas is claiming on Twitter it’s a joke about the ‘well crafted elevator sign’ instead of Rebecca? Sure reads as sarcasm, though I don’t think I get the point.

  7. says

I can’t make out the lettering on the shirts either (and if I increase the size it just blurs), but people who can tell me it says Slimepitter.

Yeah right. Jokes about well crafted elevator signs are such a thing.

  8. Wowbagger, Designated Snarker says

Just own it, Chas. You’re a shitty person, a creep and a lickspittle to bullying assholes who like to make women feel uncomfortable. At least have the character to admit that, even if you don’t have enough to stop.

  9. chasstewart says

It was just the closest wall that no one was using. Then when you look at the picture, this enormous, well made sign draws the eye.

  10. says

Chas – you and Damion (the fellow on the right, for those who don’t know) are surely being needlessly provocative here? Even if you believe you’re on the side of the right (which I’m not conceding), this is a simple playground barb. And it’s too soon to be ironic about either the Slymepit, or Elevatorgate, though I don’t think that’s what you were intending. In short, there’s no chance that this can raise the level of discourse, and there’s no chance that – if your interpretation of history, or position on how people should respond to it, is correct – that this will result in changing anyone’s mind in favour of your view.

  11. latsot says

OK, I’ll have a go at this.

It doesn’t really matter whether you get the joke, if there is one. That isn’t the point. It’s a bunch of passive-aggressive people trivializing the fallout resulting from a woman suggesting that it’s fairly creepy to follow someone into a hotel lift at 4am and proposition them for… oh, let’s say coffee.

Well… ‘fallout’ isn’t the right word, is it? It’s not a natural process, it’s getting on for 3 years of deliberate hatred, horribleness and lies. Lots of people have said awful, awful things for exactly no reason other than to silence uppity women and make people – mostly uppity women – feel bad. A handful of horrible people have come close to making a fucking industry out of it. Many others have tacitly or explicitly supported them in their efforts to increase the amount of shittiness in the world.

The people pictured are examples. They’re saying that the elevator incident was trivial. They’re saying that the horrible threats and the determined campaigns against people in the years following the incident are trivial. But more than that, they’re dismissing the plight of women who suffer from sexual harassment or prejudice in general. They’re saying that those women are taking their experiences out of proportion and there’s really nothing for them to be upset about. They’re saying that abuse is something that just happens at conferences and in the world in general and that women shouldn’t go to conferences or outside their houses if they don’t want to be abused. And they shouldn’t tell anyone if they are abused. And that if they don’t bring charges against their abusers then it either didn’t happen or they asked for it.

It’s a lot to read into a picture of some smirking wankers underneath a sign saying “elevator”, but have I got it about right?

  12. tonyinbatavia says

Well said, latsot, all of it. The part I will remember, though, is “smirking wankers.” Those two words perfectly summarize the lot of them.

  13. says

So, am I to understand that Chas Stewart and Damion Reinhardt went to SK6? Why? This is a sincere question which I hope Chas will take a sincere stab at if he comes back. Like, I don’t go trying to hang out with people I don’t like, and who don’t like me. What is the motivation for that?

  14. says

    @Chigau #21

No. I don’t think irony is what was intended – rather things like “teasing”, “poking fun at”, “trivialising” or “insulting”. Etc. It would be an attempt at irony if Rebecca Watson posed for a pic in front of an elevator sign.

  15. chigau (違う) says

    SallyStrange #22
    I’m guessing…
    it’s free or
    stupid picture opportunity
Did they even attend the conference or did they just sneak into the hotel?
or some hotel with an ‘Elevator’ sign.

  16. chasstewart says

The picture was requested by our friends (the innocent folks in the middle), and this was the best place for the photo.

Jacque, i appreciate your criticisms and charity. The Slymepit shirts were a dare and honestly, hardly anyone even noticed. It helped show me that these battle lines are not being honored or noticed by everybody. I do regret mentioning the elevator in my tweet and should have anticipated this reaction.

  17. Wowbagger, Designated Snarker says

Admittedly we’re probably asking questions of Chas that are well above his intellectual pay grade; he’s a follower and not a leader – by any stretch of the imagination.

  18. chasstewart says

@Sallystrange The convention is nearby, there are friends to meet and make and between Damion and i, we’ve been to each con since sk3. Loyal attendees!

  19. Wowbagger, Designated Snarker says

  20. chasstewart says

It was better than having a bunch of random folks milling about in the background. Yes, there were plenty of walls, but this was closest and free.

And, yes, we are perfectly framed by the elevator sign…but that’s because this sign is huge! I do remember someone remarking that we looked as though we were posing for an album cover photo but we can blame the woman next to Damion for that because she’s a celebrated singer and her charisma rubbed off on to us.

  22. Amphigorey says

He’s getting backpats from some of the usual suspects about how brave he was to take a photo under an elevator sign, and they appear to be serious. What a sad metric for “brave” they have.

Funnily enough, chasstewart is making no effort on Twitter to claim that it was a pure coincidence, and “just the best place for a photo.” They also appear to be making shit up about how people here think he’s frightening.

Frighteningly idiotic, yes. I’ll cop to believing that.

  23. brianpansky says

    @39

so chas is trying to say “i didn’t do something bad on purpose” to **us** but is ok with people thinking it was done on purpose when those people wanted that exact bad thing to be done.

it seems to logically follow that chas doesn’t agree with us that purposefully doing such a thing is actually bad. the trolling about intention that chas has done here is therefore pure red herring.

  24. says

Haha, Chas’s performance here is hilarious. Perfect example of “Slimepitter” dishonesty, “It’s just coincidence guv” … As Carlie says, such a coward he can’t even admit to it!

Damion isn’t even a slimepitter any more – had a falling out with papa felch and is, I assume, still hanging out at Slymepit-lite over at Gurdurs heathen-hub. It’s the venue for the better class of pitter, those lacking the honesty to own their jokes. Maybe they can do a series, picture of them playing the punch Anita Sarkeesian game with slimepitter T-shirts on? Typing out a rape threat on Twitter to Caroline Criado-Perez with slimepitter T-shirts on? Cos harassment of women is clearly very amusing to them. Or at least ones they don’t like … No hypocrisy there.

  25. says

Yeah the tshirts were a dare but i also wanted to do it. I wanted to prove that one can be a self identified Slimepitter but still attend and enjoy a con like Skepticon.

Did you all ignore the Surly Ramic the woman next to me is wearing? Those two like Watson so would never have agreed to such a pot shot. And i thought Watson was well within her rights to say what she wanted about that elevator ride so…

  31. Josh, Official SpokesGay says

You can’t even lie well, chasstewart. It’s a fecklessness you slymepitters share in abundance. It’s astonishing how many of you think the observers of your disgusting antics are as inept as you. We’re not stupid. Anyone can see exactly what you’re doing. And you know that; you know we see right through it. I’ve rarely seen a group of people do disingenuousness with such a pathetic lack of skill.

Yeah the tshirts were a dare but i also wanted to do it. I wanted to prove that one can be a self identified Slimepitter but still attend and enjoy a con like Skepticon.

Wearing a slymepit t-shirt at Skepticon is saying “fuck you, women, I hate you unless you give me beer and blowjobs on demand because that’s all you’re good for!” Actually, even away from Skepticon a slymepit t-shirt is saying that.

  33. Chaos Engineer says

Yeah the tshirts were a dare but i also wanted to do it. I wanted to prove that one can be a self identified Slimepitter but still attend and enjoy a con like Skepticon.

That wasn’t under dispute, was it? Everybody already knows that it’s possible to act like a jerk in public and still enjoy yourself.

I mean, where do you go from here? Will you let your “friends” dare you to throw bananas onto the field during a sporting event, just to prove that you enjoy doing it? And then later on will you claim, “I like bananas. That one just accidentally slipped out of my hand. Why is everyone acting like I’m a jerk?”

  34. Bernard Bumner says

I’m still waiting to see anything come from the Slimepit brand which could be considered positive, affirmative, or generous. If only it was possible to harness that energy for something constructive.

Insular (but not introspective) and negative (but not realistic) seems to be their entire dynamic.

Only the searing jets of superheated malice and the dull matter orbiting the event horizon gives any clue to existence of the black hole at the centre.

Was this dare a spur-of-the-moment deal? You “just happened” have printed off a couple of T-shirts, and you “just happened” to have them with you, in order to fulfil this “dare”? Then you “just happened” to choose a wall with a bloody gert “elevator” sign on it; and then “just happened” to pose with that sign perfectly framed?

Tha’s a lot of “just happened” and a lot of trouble to go to for a casual dare, no?

Actually, I quite like the t-shirts. I hope it will become a habit and everybody from the Slymepit will wear one in the conferences they are attending. That way I will just know whom to avoid right away.

No, wait — those are christians. The members of your cult wear surlyramics.

  43. joant says

It is pretty clear that the photographer framed the picture to include the elevator sign – you can’t see the faces clearly. The wall also has all sorts of unsightly outlet covers, etc., that could have easily been cropped out by moving closer to the subjects of the photo (that is, if the people were the subjects, and not the sign).

  44. says

Good grief. Mission accomplished by the assholes.

Look, slymepitters are negligible — they have practically no impact on the culture of skepticism/atheism. They are toxic and aren’t going to be asked to participate in future events by anyone. They can wear their stupid t-shirts to Skepticon and not even get noticed, because they’re useless boors, so they have to up the ante and prod at everyone a little more with their idiotic photo.

I’d ignore them, but what stinks most here is their fucking flagrant dishonesty: ‘oh, no, we didn’t mean to try and get a rise out of anyone. No, we weren’t trolling, promise!’ They can’t even admit that their intent was to provoke.

    Liars. I despise them.

  45. throwaway, never proofreads, every post a gamble says

I think what chasstewart is trying to allege is that everything in the photograph was coincidental and any subtext is inadvertently our own. Except when he’s admitting that it was one of the women’s ideas. Or graciously accepting praise from the usual gag of pitters. Or claiming that it was just the “best place for it.” Or that they’re not really being conspicuously present representing the dregs of the pit on their own, because it was a dare after all (and since second year we’ve all known that not following with dares makes you a chicken, therefore his hand was forced.) Or whatever half-thought reason he’ll come up with to avoid allowing the other “side” to win this battle. It’s all attempted mind games and gaslighting, as usual.

  46. Wowbagger, Designated Snarker says

The piss-weak coward still can’t own up to what he did? Sheesh. At least scum like ElevatorGate owns his assholish behavior. This kind of ‘pit-lite wimpyness is just pathetic.

  47. says

So it’s “confirmation bias” to see the fuckknowshowmany thousands of comments and posts and tweets and videos and podcasts and photoshops about elevators and slime pits there have been, and then see another elevator-slime pit convergence and conclude it’s more of the same? That’s confirmation bias?

Yeah I don’t think so chas.

  48. chasstewart says

It’s biased to only accept evidence that fortifies your first impressions even though everyone involved is telling you that this wasn’t meant to be an #Elevatorgate reference.

  49. Amphigorey says

Uh huh. And are you making the same argument to your twitter followers who also believe it was a dig at Rebecca Watson?

OH LOOK YOU AREN’T. Gee, wonder why that is?

  50. says

chas you’re confused. That is not bias, it’s long experience. You and your friends have been pointing and jeering for 2.5 years. It’s not bias to think that what looks like more of the same is exactly that.

  51. says

I’d have to agree with #66 joant about how the picture was taken. It’s a great shot of the “Elevator” sign, not so much of the people in the picture. If this was just a group picture of the people, why include what looks like 3 feet of space above their heads? If this picture was all about them wearing their “Slimepitter” shirts, why did they take such an awful picture of it?
At first, I could dismiss being lined up under the sign as a coincidence, but then joant’s post made me wonder why include the sign at all if they were only after a picture of the shirts as chasstewart claims.

  52. Wowbagger, Designated Snarker says

    chas, a pissant coward, wrote:

Except you’ve a history of dishonest, assholish behaviour in service to the MRatheism cause – and in this particular instance it’s backed up by the fact you’re revelling in the fact you’re receiving praise for your brave heroism from your idols on twitter.

  53. throwaway, never proofreads, every post a gamble says

Does chas not know that we can read his original tweet?

It’s a very nice elevator at Skepticon

He acknowledges the elevator right off the bat., points it out as if it’s somehow important, but doesn’t state how (knowing that the obfuscation of intent will come in handy later to portray anyone who says anything about it as manufacturing a controversy.) That alone negates any lack of intent, even if there was no intent in the picture itself (extremely generous here).

Or maybe I’m giving you too much credit and you really are as oblivious to how things might appear to an outside observer.

  54. Wowbagger, Designated Snarker says

Chas, if you were someone we’d never heard of before, who wasn’t posing with one of the more dishonest and slimy über-creeps of the misogyny movement, and who wasn’t seeking back-pats from the even scummier pack of assholes on Twitter, we might actually accept it was a freakish coincidence.

But you aren’t, you weren’t and you most certainly have. So we don’t.

  55. says

Holy crap. Chas is trying to play the “confirmation bias” card?

No, Chas, dear. Confirmation bias is when you see things – patterns, data, behaviour, etc – that aren’t there based on personal preconception or desire or opinions that such things should be there.

What’s happening here is the complete opposite: people seeing things which are fucking there and which have never gone away. Pathetic things, in fact. Old, trite, cliched, dog-eared, completely sadly unfunny things that only appeal to a very small and rather insignificant subset of the atheoskeptosphere.

The funny thing is, this comes right on the heels of a tweet sent by Rich Sanderse/on about walking out and boycotting and standing up to the Vagylon Bralek #FtBullies. If passive-aggressive t-shirts and elevator “jokes” (not to mention laughably incompetent apologists like chasstewart) are all they’ve got in the way of #braveheroes activism I think our side of the Rift has sweet fuck-all to worry about.

  56. chasstewart says

I have no history of hating Watson. A couple months ago I complimented her directly on twitter for her “this day in skepticism” segment because it was about a woman scientist I’d never heard of. And the night before I drunkenly tweeted that she was overly gracious to the waitress she nearly collided in to (Watson claimed all the fault but I didn’t think either were at fault). And on our podcast and YouTube page, Damion and I both declared unequivocally that Watson said nothing wrong in that infamous video.

So you say I have a history that helped you determine that I an a “liar, idiot Chas-hole” but you haven’t spent the time to actually find out what my personal stances are. All you saw was Slymepitter or “other” and turned your brains off.

  57. Suido says

  58. Suido says

All I saw was a photo of an elevator sign with four out-of-focus people smirking underneath it. It’s not about pattern recognition regarding your life Chas, it’s the content, focus and caption of a single photo that you seem inordinately proud of.

  59. says

Chas, your personal stances are basically irrelevant when you enable and perpetuate #elevatorgate -style passive-aggression and stupid, vapid, tiresome “jokes”. To come here and act all “wuh? Who, me?” innocent in an attempt to defend such things, as if past almost-3 years hadn’t been filled with Watson-hatred (and hatred for anyone associated with her in even the slightest way or champions feminism in any way whatsoever), is what makes people think you’re either thick or a liar.

If your personal stance is that Rebecca Watson said nothing wrong in That Video™, don’t be so eager to jump in and validate the opinions of those who think she’s the worst thing to happen to men since Eve.

  60. chasstewart says

    I hear goalposts shifting.

With your latest bullshit quibble on “You shouldn’t stereotype me just because I remain buddy buddy with a group of people that denigrate and harass someone I complimented once and are actively harassing several others,” I’m even less inclined than before to suspend my disbelief. Your present actions (the photo, the posting of the photo while highlighting the elevator aspect, the juxtaposition of Slimepitters with elevator neatly aligned to a nearly central focal point) show present attitudes are not entirely in line with whatever yarn about yourself that you’re trying to spin. So yeah, I’ll judge the book by its cover. And you’re posing for it even if you’d have written something else entirely, the narrative was laid out long before you posed for the photograph.

Dishonesty, cowardice or obliviousness. As PZ suggested maybe it’s all three.

  64. peterferguson says

Just out of curiosity, is everyone here levying the same accusations towards Greg Lammers as he a) took the photo and b) corroborated what both Chas and Damion have said?

  65. freemage says

chasstewart: “Slimepitter” is a voluntary identity and association. You can pick it, or not, as you choose. The entire reason for the existence of the Slimepit was and remains the mocking and harassment of Watson and feminism in general. So yes, when you choose to declare your affiliation with a group, it is reasonable to assume that you share that group’s purpose. If I’m talking to a self-described Roman Catholic, I’m confident in assuming that they believe that a Jewish carpenter said a lot of flowery language, got nailed to a piece of wood and then bounced back three days later because hey, Son of God (and also God, assuming they’ve actually bothered to learn the full doctrine of the Trinity).

Now, there may be some Catholics out there who in fact don’t believe the Incarnation and Resurrection happened, but if they want people to know that, it’s incumbent upon them to put forward that fact. You, on the other hand, not only wore the identifying shirt, but ALSO indulged in the whole elevator nonsense.

We aren’t overlooking evidence, here; we’re weighing it carefully, and treating it accordingly. The evidence of your testimony of intent is weighed against your actual conduct and group identity. If someone from Answers In Genesis tells me that God spoke to him personally, and that He said that it really was a seven-day creation, I’m allowed to be skeptical about that testimony.

  66. hjhornbeck says

My head jerked around a bit when I walked past someone wearing a “Slimepitter” T-shirt. I’d known at least one ‘Pitter was present at Skepticon, as Damion looked to be tweeting from the event, but to have the gall to proudly represent a group that has done more to drive people away from the atheism and skeptical movements than any other is just… wow. Way to prove you’re assholes, guys. At least the Christian protesters were respectful enough to stay outside.

Though I have to admit, my reaction at the time wasn’t nearly as harsh, and in fact I had to giggle a little. Because when I spotted what looked like Damion in his “Slimepitter” T-shirt…

… I was wearing my “Atheism Plus” T-shirt.

  67. chasstewart says

@freemage I would estimate that the reason for the Slymepit is because it allows nearly absolute freedom from moderation. Especially since this was the ethos over at Abbie Smith’s comment section which was a thing before Elevatorgate and moderation seems to be the one official no-no (though it gets damn rough if you propose a dissenting view on Watson or Myers because most people in that forum have a knee jerk reaction towards those figures).

So maybe the better analogy would be to ask that Catholic if they believe that they are actually eating the flesh and drinking the blood of Jesus when they take part in the Eucharist than whether or not they believe that Christ was Christ. And, I imagine that you will learn that many Catholics don’t believe think they are literally eating and drinking Jesus.

  68. says

No, the reason for the slime pit is not because it allows nearly absolute freedom from moderation. It’s because it attracts people who obsessively hate six or seven feminist atheist bloggers. It attracts them because it’s a place where they can share and discuss and recirculate their obsessive hatred with similar others.

  69. FloraPoste says

@freemage I would estimate that the reason for the Slymepit is because it allows nearly absolute freedom from moderation.

Because there is just nowhere else on the internet that is unmoderated. The Slymepit is the lone outpost. Except, no it isn’t.

It is however, one of the few places on the Internet where it’s possible to obsessively hate on minor personalities in the atheist/skeptic blogosphere with the handful of other people who care.

  70. FloraPoste says

    Jinx, Ophelia.

Chas, I asked this in the other thread.

Why is it important to convince people that “it was just the best place for a picture” and not a deliberate visual joke? If it was deliberate, would that be something to be ashamed of?

  71. says

I would estimate that the reason for the Slymepit is because it allows nearly absolute freedom from moderation.

See, this is why nobody believes you when you claim it was just an innocent mistake. That’s an obvious lie. The Slimepit is moderated. Maybe less moderated than Greta Christina’s. And, its founding impetus was not just freedom from moderation in general, but freedom from having comments about how “Rebeccunt Twatson” is a hideous [insert slur here] moderated.

Once again, YOU have created a situation where there are two competing explanations for your actions, and they are: Chas is a giant asshole, or Chas is mind-bogglingly credulous and dumb. So, if you want us to believe you’re not a horrible awful person, stop complaining that people think you are fucking stupid.

  72. doubtthat says

    @92 peterferguson

Yes. I would make the same accusation. Ophelia’s original post did not single anyone out. It was Chas’s desire to show up and offer what can only be described as a shockingly glib defense of his actions that have brought the focus on to him.

If the other two folks are trying the same lame defense, it doesn’t improve with numbers.

  73. says

    chas @102 – yes, and?

People who do horrible things defend their actions. So? Does that automatically mean they have a good case? No. People defend horrible things they’ve done. Are they at fault for doing that? Yes.

Notice that you changed the wording. doubtthat said “a shockingly glib defense of his actions” and you changed that to defending yourself – as if from an assault.

You’ve been flippant at best and evasive at worst. You could do better, I assume, but you seem to prefer not to.

It’s really quite amazing. chasstewart must think the people here are as stupid as he is. First he gives an untruthful explanation of how he and Damion just happened to be standing directly under an elevator sign. Then when it’s obvious that nobody here is buying that nonsense, he tries to rewrite the origins of the Slymepit.

Dudebro, we watched the Slymepit get created. We’ve seen your fellow ‘pitters in action. Please stop insulting our intelligence by telling us outright lies.

Then it was pretty bleeding stupid to put on a t-shirt and take a photo in a location which suggests that you are a member of and agree with a group with a longstanding practice of threatening, shaming, and attempting to humiliate Watson and people like her, wasn’t it?

For your next trick, do you plan to wear a Rush Limbaugh t-shirt to a gay friend’s wedding and then protest how much you’re a fan of marriage equality?

How about if some homophobic moron friends “dare” you to?

  76. hjhornbeck says

Bah, SallyStrange @99 said the exact same thing I wanted to say. I’ll just add that it’s trivially easy to find evidence of editing, and I know of one commenter who got their posts deleted and themselves banned. They remove spam posts and block spam bots, too.

Moderation doesn’t have to be top-down, either. I remember spotting a comment from Oolon somewhere on the network where he accidentally discovered his posts were being blocked by other users on the Slyme Pit; once he set up a new account to get around a technical glitch, people complained they could see his posts again. I can’t find a link at the moment, sadly.

So what makes the SlymePit so attractive is not the lack of moderation, which is demonstrably false, but the lack of moderation against hate speech.

    So, a recap:

Chas showed up here voluntarily and managed, via his own words, to create a situation where the only two explanations for that photo are:

    (a) he’s an ignorant, credulous, easily-led buffoon with no appreciation or understanding of the vile and sustained fallout from That Video (i.e. “it was the best spot for the photo and I didn’t realise the charged nature of the huge all-caps word above the subjects’ heads or its relationship to the word on their t-shirts! Honest!”) even as he claims that he found nothing wrong with said video or…

    (b) he’s a flat-out, unapologetic, deadpan, lying little troll.

  78. says

Further to my 108, I’m going to take the more charitable route and assume that Chas is fully aware of everything that picture conveys. Therefore it’s (b): he’s a lying sack of trollshit playing up to the dudebro chuckleheads.

Honestly, calling him as clueless and ignorant as situation (a) would imply would be a pretty grievous insult. Why, that’d make him as stupid as he must think we are.

    Dr Hank prescribes the banhammer.

  79. says

@hjhornbeck, you are absolutely right, apparently adding people who post on the pit to your kill file is not moderation. Even when the mod/admin on the pit threatened to shun one of the other members of the pit for responding to me (When I was only arguing about misogynistic words, not taking the piss at all, well hardly!) that was not considered moderation. Steersman is on lots of peoples kill files for going against the prevailing hate of feminist opinion from time to time (He was unique in being the only dissenter when I was reading the pit over a year ago, might be different now). I think when I left I was on pretty much everyone’s kill file, as evidenced by the universal whining when I had to post using a guest account that cannot be kill filed … But none of this is “moderation” as they can still post to the forum and have no one see or read their opinions. Shunning of people with different opinions is fine on the Slymepit, but don’t “moderate” them or you’ll be like the “Baboons”!

LOL’ing at Chas’s half arsed lies about the photo. Even if I extended him the courtesy of believing that the photographer was an unwitting participant in an accidental happenstance. What stopped him cropping the photo to something more reasonable given the stated aim of the picture was to highlight the people and t-shirts? He knew the picture was fortuitous (Assuming it was) for a particular reason, and chose to keep it like that, for a particular reason. That reason being the ability to play up to the nasty harassers on Twitter and the pit. Cos a woman getting years of abuse over a comment about an elevator is hilarious.

SCENE: A hallway, in which two men are walking along in opposite directions talking on their phones, each oblivious to the other’s presence. The men are identical.

STUNT: The two men crash into one another, and drop their identical phones. They each pick one up, and try continuing the conversation.

MAN 1: “Right, so like I was saying, it was totally innocent, and in fact I love Rebecca Watson and fluffy bunnies and I’m a totally easygoing dude who’s being brutally persecuted for a misunderstanding!”

MAN 2: “Hahaha, did you see that Twitpic I sent? Sick, yeah? Fuckin-a, totally ragged that bitch out.”

SOUND FX: Faint noises of outrage on both phones

MAN 1: “Crap, dude, you got your malice in my stupidity!”

MAN 2: “Yeah, well, you got your disingenuousness in my LULZ-seeking!”

    They walk away, arguing.

NARRATOR: The Slymepit. It’s two great trolls in one!

    SOUND FX: Peppy jingle.

  81. chasstewart says

@Oolon I posted this on my phone during the drive home from Skepticon. I don’t usually take the time to crop photos so I just posted it. Twitter is more of a stream-of-consciousness effort for me.

  82. says

Chas lies about the origin of the Slimepit, and can’t explain why it’s mean-spirited to make an Elevatorgate joke, but not to wear a Slimepit t-shirt.

I suppose, in order to justify why it’s not just as mean-spirited to wear a Slimepit t-shirt, he’d have to first stop lying about the origins of the Slimepit.
