At least the winter storm name isn’t official or she’d be in big trouble.

Sure people have probly heard this before and likely will again but they should really start naming deadly storms, hurricanes and floods after Climate Deniers and Fossil Fuel companies – YT clip on a petiton to do that here. (3 mins long.)

StevoR, that is futile. It will make zero difference. It has made zero difference.

Very topical indeed.

No, I’ve never heard that before, and it’s obviously pointless.
(Look, you gonna try to do activism instead of keyboard warrioring, petitions ain’t it)

I was hoping it was John Lewis-style good trouble. But maybe she’s not old enough for that yet. We can definitely use some.

A couple of weeks ago the violent storm Eowyn hit Great Britain but it was less severe in the south, where J R R Tolkien had lived.

If Santorini erupts in the near future maybe Greece should rename it Trump?

Wait, the weather controlling deep state is sending the storm to both red and blue states?

Does the storm front on that weather map look like a car going downhill? Or am I just a geezer missing something obvious?
Don’t answer that 2nd question.

@3. John Morales : I strongly disagree. If they did name hurricanes,ty[phoons, floods, etc.. after Climate Deniers and Fossil Fuel companies I think it would act as a very good reminder of who is causing these ever more frequent and severe “natural” disasters that might help focus people’s attentions. I think doing so would be an excellent idea and would love to see it happen.

Your capitalisation of “Climate Deniers and Fossil Fuel companies” is informative, StevoR.
They do indeed engage in greenwashing, so… you know, maybe they insidiously killed the initiative even before it began. Maybe it would work, but they are too Powerful for that, by now.

Well, the proposal to which you linked didn’t exactly get much traction, did it?
Think about the practicalities, maybe. I know, ideologues tend to ignore those, but others don’t.
For example, there are numerous such events, and a rather limited set of names from which to choose.

Here, just for one area: “The Atlantic basin saw 18 named storms in 2024 (winds of 39 mph or greater).”
