Friday Cephalopod: Sexy or scary?

Here’s a bobtail squid coming at you, its business end straight on, its tentacles splayed open and elegantly curled.

What are you feeling right now?

a. Aroused.

b. Horrified.

c. Some other, possibly indescribable, emotion.

There is only one correct answer, and you will be graded.

  1. stroppy says

Er, I won’t comment on peoples fetishes.

The photo is beautiful, so are fractals and many things found in nature and math. Probably all comes down to math.

    That is the correct answer.

  2. PaulBC says

It’s not really a feeling, but the first thought that comes to mind is that it would look beautiful in a glass paperweight, at least from that angle, at least it if was the right size. I would never do that to a real octopus though.

  3. taikonotaiko says

I cheated and googled for a better angle. Those things are tiny and cute as hell! I guess I choose option c then because I would wanna be friends and keep it as a pet (but doubt it can or should be kept as such)

  4. trollofreason says

C; I’m amused because because is a tiny squid trying to look big. But also concerned, because tiny sucker-baby likely is afraid of me, & that’s not cool.

Status: everyone who has not posted their answer is failing the quiz right now. Get to work.

I hate this reboot of Squid Game.

Only a few more hours till I can crack open a brew and thrown some paint in the studio. Thanks :)

  7. outis says

Heh, I’d say, somewhat like other posters:
    d. fascinated, as when contemplating a form of beauty.
but that was not on the exam paper, so I’ll go for c, Perfesser.

  8. says

    #1: correct.
    #2: exactly.
    #3: A+.
#4: shut up, you old fart.
    #5, #6, #7: right on the nose.
    #8: right.
    #9: You got it.
#10: It doesn’t matter whether you hate it or not. You will be judged.
    #11: OK.
#12: Correct, but please refrain from making personal remarks about the professor.
    #13: both answers are good.
#14: Why you gotta bring me down?
    #15: Yes.
#16: OK, but don’t use this to insult spiders.

  9. naturalcynic says

We’re in Looney Tunes territory with Henry the Chicken Hawk going after Foghorn Leghorn.
“I say, boy, do you know wha’cher doin'”

  10. wsierichs says

As soon as I saw it, I got down on my knees and started chanting: “Hail, Mighty Cthulhu, Divine Messenger of the Great Old Ones!” Over and over. I hope I will be among the First Eaten.

There is no other realistic answer.

  11. birgerjohansson says

My comment is “This thing will give the resurrected Engineer a nasty surprise”.

  12. festersixohsixonethree says

Clearly, to me, the answer is C.
It seems tragic to some degree that these magnificent and very intelligent creatures have such a short life span. I am in awe of them.
