T-1 hour

Oh, boy, the data collection begins in about an hour: I’ve got about a week of grueling spider survey work ahead of me. I’m going to be poking around in dusty, cobwebby garages with headlamps on, tallying up spiders and spider egg cases, and I expect to be worn out at the end of the day. It’s going to be great! I’m looking forward to the first dollop of data today. I’m looking forward even more to the last dollop of data at the end of the summer.

I’ll just imagine scenes from Arachnophobia, Lord of the Rings, Tarantula, and other fine arachnological documentaries.

Is it possible to get an R01 funded about how spiders can be harnessed to eat cats? I bet the NIMH would give it a look!

The mildly deranged penguin says she’s managed to make contact with the Morris Shelob Squire, who confirms the minions are waiting for fresh juicy students… and a gnarled olde perfessor smelling of kraken, zebras, fish, and soufflé. Lots of beer, pizza, and Morris Dancing mentioned, plus some whacking big sticks…

(I’ve asked her to check the spacetime telegraph settings. Whilst she does appear to have contacted a critter in Morris named Shelob with many legs, it does appear to be the spider-ish one…)
