Becker is one of those guys who thinks it is fun to sexually harass women over the internet. Only this time, the woman fought back smartly and rationally. And tracked down her harasser and threatened to send Joshua Becker’s mother the screencaps of the chat.
I suspect, though, that the only lesson he learned was to do a better job of concealing his identity when he’s demanding that women give him sexual favors, since his response to being told to stop and that his stupid comments would be made public was “newsflash: your fat as fuck”.
Yeah, I think I can tell who comes off as the intelligent participant in that conversation.

Interesting set of priorities there.

Highlighting once again why there will always be a need for professionally edited sources of information. And Josh, when is the last time you had your your meds adjusted?
Gnumann+, something borrowed, something gnu... says
Why does idiot chauvinist oversexed twits always use this trope:
Icot: fuck me!
Woman: No
Icot: fuck me, please!
Woman: No, you’re vile – get away from me!
Icot: Would you fuck me for x $?
Woman: Just go the fuck away
Icot: You ugly! (Optionally, for extra irony – Icot: Whore!)
Tony ∞The Queer Shoop∞ says
Can we please stop making comments about ‘adjusting your meds’? The implication is that only someone who has a mental disability would sexually harass someone. There is no evidence that Josh is on medication or even needed to be.
With that said, he is a complete asswipe.
I am glad the blogger handled the situation so well. She rocks.
Noadi says
Is it wrong that I’d like to see guys like this on meds that nuke their sex drive? That’s the only kind of med adjustment they probably need.
Rodney Nelson says
You’re probably right.
Tony ∞The Queer Shoop∞ says
Noadi:
I see what you’re getting at, but is the sex drive of these douchecakes the problem or an expression of a deeper problem?
zb24601 says
I agree with Tony (#4)… Josh may or may not be mentally ill, but his behavior in this case is indicative of a character flaw, not mental illness.
I noticed that Josh offered money in exchange for a sexual act. Doesn’t that constitute a crime, i.e., solicitation for prostitution. Filing those charges would give Josh something else to explain to his mother and grandmother, not to mention the judge, and it would make for interesting conversation in job interviews.
Speaking of job interviews, don’t most employers do a google search on someone before the set up an interview? I know I would. I would not want to bring someone into my company who engages in sexual harassment.
Gnumann+, something borrowed, something gnu... says
Noadi:
Personally, I’d rather change the underlying structures of society which channels their sex drive into toxic masculinity today. It’s not easy, but I still think it’s more viable than chemically castrating huge swats of the male population.
Nepenthe says
My fat as fuck what? What is my fat as fuck doing? Your sentence isn’t finished without a predicate and a verb!
Btw, if you haven’t had the joy of online dating as a woman, this is pretty typical in my experience.
Lachlan says
Yes. Drugging people whose behaviour you don’t like is not a reasonable solution.
This particular fellow doesn’t seem terribly bright. I sincerely hope she sent the screencaps to his family members, so at least he learns a lesson.
hypatiasdaughter says
Am I the only one who got creeped out that he immediately agreed to disappear when she threatened to show screen shots to his mother and grandmother?
These guys remind me of a predator who stalks and toys with a lone animal that gets separated from the herd. But turns tail and runs if the herd shows up.
It’s like he thinks “I can treat her any way I want because she is alone and can’t do anything to stop me.” Then got scared shitless when she threatens to bring in backup.

More like shame from having his mother and grandmother know just what a misogynistic little boy they have raised. A complete lack of empathy. As though the woman wasn’t even a real person.

The Might of Ftb, fighting one high school dweeb at a time, a big well done.
BinJabreel says
@16: I feel like that was sarcasm, but I don’t care. Fight the good damn fight.
Tony ∞The Queer Shoop∞ says
Balstrome:
First off, there is no fighting.
Secondly, FtB doesn’t have a ‘fighting’ division.
Thirdly, PZ is merely* relating the story of how a blogger shut down her harasser.
Fourthly, have you checked his FB page to see if he is in high school?
Fifthly: even if he was in high school, that doesn’t excuse the sexual harassment
Sixthly: why are you treating sexual harassment as if is not a big deal?
Seventhly: since when does FtB go after high school dweebs at all, let alone solo or in groups?
And finally:
How much thought did you put into your asinine, uncritical, unskeptical, illogical, comment?
*I say ‘merely’ bc PZ did nothing more than report a story. Every time a sexist douchebag is put in their place…every time a woman is able to stand up and not back down is a victory against sexism. You should be cheering her on. Do you want your sister, mother, aunt, daughter or granddaughter to have to deal with harassment like this?
Is your response above something you would tell your girlfriend, wife, or daughter if they were sexually harassed? Would you be so callous or dismissive if one of your loved ones were treated like a sex toy for the satisfaction of a man?
Come on dude. Think. Employ your higher functions.

Also, I am reminded of a talk the writer David Brin gave in the late 90s about what a post-privacy world might look like. He stated that if everyone lost their online privacy then when someone does something creepy like this, you could then tell his mother. Interesting how, at least in one instance, this has come true.
Tony ∞The Queer Shoop∞ says

Sweeeeeeet. Before the rumble gets going, will someone help me put my wool into liberty spikes?
Giliell, professional cynic says
Nah, but that’s because they’re his property. This woman obviously is a stray pet who’s on the internet without a rightful owner so that’s OK.
Oh, and I’m cheering her on.
Fanty says
I’m not sure if that guy’s mother would even care that her son is behaving this way. When my brother old my mum that he an his friends scammed a person online, the only thing my mum objected to was the fact that his friends took all the money and didn’t give any to my brother. Not everybody cares about pesky stuff like ethics or morality.
dobber says
This one might care. She’s a Christian, and so is he. And she also is a Women for Obama fan.

@Nepenthe:
Online dating as a trans woman is even more confusing and… dare I say gross?
Guy 1 – says he’s straight, sends me a message that seems nice, I tell him I’m trans, he bails after telling me I’m sick in the head
Guy 2 – says he’s straight, sends me a message that seems nice, I tell him I’m trans, he says he’s okay with that, we chat a bit, and he asks me if I want to suck his cock
Guy 3 – suck my cock
Guy 4 – bi guy, seems nice, suck my cock
Guy 5 – want a threesome
And so forth. As of yet I’ve not had a single situation that doesn’t turn out confusing or gross like that…
kate_waters says
@Katherine # 26
I don’t know if this will be cheering or depressing, but as a straight, cis woman, it’s not that much different. Actually, it’s not different at all.
Well, except for the “Do you do anal?” questions. When I did the online dating thing I got those a fair bit.
(Not that I have anything *against* anal. I just think that’s more of a “third date” question than something you should use in an introductory greeting. I guess I’m just old fashioned.)
Nepenthe says
@Katherine and kate
From online dating one would think that “Suck my dick” had become an accepted English greeting on par with “Hello”.
Katherine Lorraine, Chaton de la Mort says
@Kate:
Naw, I get those questions too. I just wish more would be like guy 3 or 5 though. If you’re going to be a fucking creeper, let me know ahead of time so I can block you. I hate getting a good rapport with someone and actually thinking like they’ll be a nice person, only for them to come off with a creeper line about a week down the road.
@Nepenthe:
And something like “I wouldn’t want to fuck you anyway” is the goodbye? I can see it now:
“Suck my dick!”
“Suck my dick! Lovely weather we’re having, no?”
“It’s a little cold, I think. Perhaps the sun will come out later.”
“I certainly hope so. Hey I have to get running. Nice to see you again!”
“You too, I wouldn’t want to fuck you anyway.”
“Wouldn’t want to fuck you anyway!”

@16 That comment was so dumb. Welcome to the internet. Do you think everyone on the slymepit etc. are teenage dweebs? Going solely by lurking the comments of this very site I can tell you that sexual harassment is not relegated to a specific subset of guys.

“Is it wrong that I’d like to see guys like this on meds that nuke their sex drive? That’s the only kind of med adjustment they probably need.”
I don’t think his sex drive is the issue. I have a sex drive, it doesn’t make me behave like an arsehole. The issue is that he’s a disgusting excuse for a human being.
