Why didn’t I hear about this before?

Hey, I’m late to the party, but not too late. There are going to be a series of grassroots concerts all across the country to benefit Americans United for Separation of Church and State. This weekend! Look at the map and find the one nearest to you and go!

If you can’t make it, here’s Roy Zimmerman with a song he composed for the event.

Maybe US freethinkers need to embrace the idea. Every other western democracy, that has some degree of church/state entanglement, also has a high incidence of atheism/indifference. I find it fascinating that US Christians are so keen to slay the goose that lays the golden egg. The US is unique among developed countries, in that it is so religious. Separation of Church and State is the one factor that renders the US different from the rest of us.

No, it’s not. The USA has the highest income inequality among rich countries, a weak welfare state, and no universal health coverage. Why do you think the religious right is trying so hard to preserve those features, but is fighting the separation of church and state?

There’s the shitty education, waning status as a superpower, temperate landmass (WEll, China about matches there)…

These seem neat, but I’m already engaged for the weekend. Ah well :<

Of course the Charleston concert is this Sunday… When I’ll be out of town.

    Grumble.

if it’s too late for this year I’ll start organizing for next year and host something.

Roy Zimmerman is brilliant, but the song is frighteningly too real. I will now go and hide under the covers with my plush toy for a few moments to stabilize.

Does Zimmerman have any CD’s of his songs? Would love to add to my collection.
Hmmm…. he’s sort of a hybrid of early ’60’s Dylan and late ’80’s Bobby McFerrin– he’s tellin’ us in a nice, sweet, upbeat and melodic way…. just exactly how we’re all being screwed.
