rain clouds will ask if you wanted your ground drowned and not wait for you to say yes. rain clouds will wet your city like that one action movie where some guys did a heist during a flood then had to get chased by cops on jetskis. what was that shit called?
rain clouds will be, like, “i see a brown lawn and i want it painted green. bright-assed with the chloroplasts, and mushrooms in between.” i wish i could stay up late and turn off the electronic white noise and listen to my roof get taken to pound town. get down, make love.
alas, work beckons. time to squeak in my thirty-six winks. i’ll get the full forty when i’m dead. rain will turn my ashes to clay. good night, i say as if you aren’t going to be reading this when the sun is up. good night.

Good morning. The sun isn’t up yet, here in Michigan. But I’m done with my thirty-six winks and I have to get to work.
We are supposed to get thunderstorms today. I hope they arrive after work, as I like to watch them.
Say what now?
say who, it seems… yeah sun is making itself known again. i don’t love it.
It thundered here today but without much rain, which always leaves me feeling rather cheated. Fortunately our present dog is not bothered by thunder, perhaps a result of having been on the streets for a while, so being inside while shit is going on outside feels comparatively safe.
The thunderstorms rolled over without a drop, but an hour later we got a good shower. Sitting on the porch, sipping a martini, with my bare feet being washed by the rain as it steams off of the sidewalk, that’s a pleasant time. About as good as it gets.
It only came down hard for about 20 minutes, and little more than an inch, but that’s all we need a week to keep everything green.
I can’t say that the livin’ is easy, but I much prefer summertime.
it got windy and light rain but nothing like thunder in our little valley – at least until the month of fireworks picks up again tonight.
hey, it’s song ref time. but whose version do you think of? sam cooke? sublime? someone else?
i half-remembered the janis version and looked to see who else had done it. better to ask who hasn’t, lol. i did not know it was gershwin, but i don’t know from plays and showtunes.
It happens that my favorite cover is Billie Holiday’s.
My mother used to put albums of showtunes on when cleaning house. So I grew up knowing a lot of the Rogers and Hammerstein songbook, as well as Gershwin, Kern, and Hart. It wasn’t until I was in middle school when someone tried to explain to me that knowing showtunes was gay (to use the prejudicial terminology of the time). I never saw it then, and I still don’t see it now, I’m not homosexual and I like showtunes. I don’t break out in song in front of people, because I can’t sing, but I do sing to myself while in the car or mowing the lawn, even without the radio playing. Everyone is weird in some ways, knowing showtunes is one of my weirdnesses.
