Jack Phillips, the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, told local media that this wasn’t the first time he had turned away homosexuals seeking wedding cakes, but it is the first time his stand for Christian principles has resulted in so much media attention and some death threats.
What stand for Christian principles? Where did baby Jesus say don’t provide wedding cakes to gay people who want to get married? Where did Paul say that? Who says that’s Christian principles?
The situation developed on July 19 when two homosexuals entered the shop and announced they were getting “married” in Massachusetts and wanted to order a wedding reception cake for their reception in Colorado.

I’ve been an out Queer for over forty years. I’ve never been this frightened.
They want natural law? I seriously doubt that. The only natural law is survival of the fittest which would mean others could kill them and take their possessions at any time.
In any case, given that homosexuality occurs naturally in various species, natural law is clearly not against it.
Not that’s particularly surprising that the anti-rational folks are just claiming things and not caring if there’s actually any truth to it.
Why are the non-bigoted christians not screaming in outrage at this kind of thing being called “christian principles”?

Yes, it’s getting worse. I grew up in Colorado, and it didn’t used to be like this—until they started passing laws favoring churches with extreme views (like in Colorado Springs). There had always been rednecks and haters in the mountains and rural areas, but the suburbs in the front range used to be much more accepting. Not anymore. The same seems to be true of women’s rights. Is it just me, or were things calmer 5-10 years ago? Back then we didn’t seem to have so many MRA’ers, for example, and although the harrassment was there, it seems like we didn’t have so many furious apologists for it.
I suppose it’s a reflection of the increased polarization nationwide. It just goes to show that we have to fight harder for women’s rights, same-sex marriage, etc., and not become complacent.
And yet there is hope, too. A same-sex marriage law was passed in my state (Washington) recently, and although there is a challenge to it on the november ballot, it looks like it will probably fail (fingers crossed).
Does anyone else think this could be leading up to the second Civil War? I find in my own thinking it is becoming more and more an emotional response of just plain nastiness to the Christian right. I just do see myself being tolerant anymore.
I worry that a few wealthy industrialist like in pre war Germany set up a populist leader who they think they will control and can’t when given an army. The German churches Catholic and a few protestants gave money for anti communist efforts which seems to be happening now.
The anti gay stuff is not about the Bible, if it was real disasters like pig farming and feral pigs would be dealt with and the churches would be obeying Leviticus and not charge interest and sure would not be on the side of banks. Much of the effort to promote hate has come from out of country sources, the President last year talk about foriegn corporate money from China going to the US Chamber of Commerce, Media outlets like Fox have their second largest investor a Saudi, and with citizens united anyone in the world who owns stock can put money into our elections.
I know many West Coast people who if a theocracy was in place would fight it. Am I going overboard or do others feel that way?
