Hello there loyal readers! Sorry I’ve been somewhat absent lately – this week has been absolutely destroying me. Guess my professors feel like they have to make up for us having Monday off. Anyway, I’m capping off my week by going to that vile Porn and Popcorn event tomorrow with some other club members because 1) Other people don’t want to go alone 2) I’m a masochist and 3) for yooooouuuuu *insert hearts and sparkles here*. If this event is as mind numbing as I suspect it will be, you all owe me. If you have no idea what Porn and Popcorn is, go here and here.
Does anyone have any good questions they’d like the anti-porn people to be asked? Any scientific studies I should have under my belt (links would be nice)? Suggestions of alcoholic remedies for afterwards? Maybe I’ll have a Sex on the Beach followed by a Screaming Orgasm.
Get a Blow Job shot as well! Try not to use your hands while drinking it *wink*

Oh fail. When I read porn and popcorn, I was imagining more along the lines of actual porn and popcorn (which my alma mater still does once every semester). Boy were those fun. We used to have a row of geeks on computers at the back of the auditorium on IRC, giving a live commentary on how bad the particular porn being showed was. Lots of tomfoolery. Lots of great one liners being shouted out. To top it all off, some of us would stop by the anti-porn-alternative-event-icecream-social think that took place across the auditorium for free pre-porn icecream. We sold out completely when Pirates XXX came out.

Here's my question to these, ahem, wankers:
Suppose a heterosexual, married couple is having problems. One wants to have sex more than the other wishes to, and this is causing friction. And not the good kind of friction, either. If the higher-sex-drive person jacking off to porn is off-limits, then what is the solution?

I've got one:
Speaking objectively, the vast majority of produced porn is of little value as entertainment, save in a MST3000 sort of way. But sexual activity is an entirely natural part of the human condition. Would they, therefore, support the introduction of more explicit sex into mainstream movies, thus simultaneously lending a plot to filmed sex and (likely) completely outcompeting the sex-for-sex's sake films that they so abhor?
(Not that there's anything wrong with sex-for-sex's sake, but very seldom does one find a porn film that isn't far easier to mock than enjoy.)

Ask if it is ok to watch porn if you don't masturbate.
Then ask if it's ok to masturbate if you don't watch porn.
Good luck, have fun.

You're doing the porn and popcorn for me? Awww.
And watch the P&T episode on porn before you go. That's always a good way to get talking points.

Here's a cite that more porn reduces rape.

Would a movie have more or less plot than a porn movie if it was a horror movie that had replaced all of the violent death scenes with consensual sex?

Just a point, when you say "for yooooouuuuu" hold your wrists out and act pained.

Another potential hypothetical: what about porn made by you for you? Say a married couple who are going to be apart for awhile (army or something) make a movie together to keep them entertained?
Also, what constitutes porn? A lot of people promoting early sex ed were told it was 'pornographic'. What about images of genitals designed to show off the range of normal healthy functioning ones as a way of removing shame many people have about their bodies, which may help improve their sex lives? (betty dodson used to have one of these) Also what about pics of breasts to show that range (came across one site that showed a range of breasts and discussed what breasts with certain milk-producing problems could look like, that you might want to check out). also, what about drawings and stories. clearly no people were hurt in the making of them. What if you and your partner like starting yourselves up by reading erotica? Again, the line blurs here. You could mention the song of solomon.

We should go back to Victorian values when it was considered practicaly pornographic to show the legs on a table.
Imagine all the things that would titllate you if you were that repressed?
Even woodwork would make the wood work.

Here are a few…
XXX Church claims to be experts in porn and porn addiction. What qualifications do they have for their claim? Do they employ any psychologists or experts in sexual health? Do they attend seminars for professionals studying human sexuality? Do any of them have an accredited certification from AMA to work with porn addicts and treat their conditions?

It seems to be a presumption that pornography leads to addiction and spiritual "bondage." (no pun intended, really, that's the word they use). Certainly it can, but I don't think it does for most people. I would ask about that presumption.
One thing I would consider is that there really is a big ugly underside to the pornography business. I believe xxx church does work with porn workers, or I think I remember a video where they did. Anyway, I would be careful not to minimize the good that an organization like that might do. While they may be off base in some ways, there are a lot of people out there who need help, for whom things have spiraled out of control.

This isn't about porn per se, but I would love it if you could ask this question:
When two uber-Christians are dating, what is the preferred method of determining sexual compatibility? I imagine the anti-porn people are also anti-sex before marriage, so how do two celibate-by-choice people broach subjects like sensuality or libidos to find out if they're on the same page?
The stereotype of a committed Christian is that they try to repress their sexual urges even after getting married (unless they're trying to have kids), but realistically abstinent people must be aware of how powerful their sex drive is. And it seems like problems could develop down the road if someone who really isn't interested in sex marries someone who saved themselves for marriage but still does have a very healthy sex drive.
Now you have one person who wants to do it and one person who doesn't, and you would think that figuring that out before marriage would be the ideal situation. So how do celibate people figure it out?

Philip: Regarding "I imagine the anti-porn people are also anti-sex before marriage" and the general assumption that anti-porn people are Christians — not necessarily. That may tend to be the case (there are probably statistics on it somewhere), but my mom is one counterexample. She is rather anti-porn (as evidenced by the fact that she always calls it "pornography" :P), but she is a liberal atheist feminist.
Of course, her opposition is based on a well-intentioned desire to protect women from exploitation, but there is still a few underlying puritanical assumptions there — that no woman would voluntarily participate in porn (e.g. even if it is not physically coercive, it must be due to manipulation or economic desparation), that it is inherently degrading, etc. I doubt she would explicitly state any of these premises, but she seems to take them as assumptions.

Nothing like enjoying a little pre-bonking porn viewing with your boyfriend on a lazy Sunday :). Some couples like porn, it can bring them together. I'm a lady who enjoys some good old fashioned xxx now and again, especially with good company :).
