Catholic Priest by day, techno singing Drag Queen by night

This is pretty much the best thing ever (from The Freethinker):

“THERE is much wailing and gnashing of teeth in Roman Catholic circles in the US over the recent revelation that a Catholic priest, Father Anthony (aka Vincent Capretta), is a drag queen who performs as Big Mama Capretta.

Drag queen and priest Father Anthony

Not only that, the gay priest, from Columbus, Ohio, has a single that is currently No 25 on Billboard’s Club Play dance chart called “Big Mama’s House.”

Said Capretta:

It’s Big Mama, y’all! And I am no longer afraid to come out of the closet as a gay Catholic priest! … I am enjoying my life being who I am and who God intended me to be! Now let’s dance, y’all!”

Apparently Catholic Online is in a tizzy about this story, no surprise there. They’re saying he’s not a real Roman Catholic – he’s part of the Old Independent Catholic Church – so it doesn’t count at the Catholic church endorsing gay rights. Because that would be a horrible, horrible thing. Uh, okay. I actually think the world would be a better place with more drag queens, but we all know I’m a little strange.

Here’s the video for his song, for those of you who are interested:

I'm not much for the song, but clearly, there should be more drag queens.

Though, even though I was raised Catholic, I never realized that priests could have a 'stage name' for when they're up there. Does this mean Father Bill wasn't necessarily Father Bill?

My childhood, it is destroyed! (Well, not really.)

It makes me think of the yearly drag show they do at my alma mater. There's a company of drag queens and kings who come up and put the show on. It's pretty hilarious to see them torture the poor insecure people in the audience, I won't lie. All the drag queens I've met are wonderfully fun people.

I've never actually run into any, unfortunately, beyond one of my cousins. He was a bit of a jerk, but he's related to me, so it's more of a family thing than anything else. We're all jerks.

We discussed the Texan thing earlier.

I'm joking, I swear!! Haha. Well, I was pretty active in the pride society at my university, as active as a straight guy can be. I met a few through them. That's a series of stories, though, too.

I loved this when I read it, one of my favourite people to party with is Shauna, an absolutely gorgeous drag queen and hilarious to be around.

Although the thought of flamboyantly gay or even tolerant christians denominations is a very foreign concept to me.

Haha. I agree! And, we don't have one of those at my university (TEXAAAAAS!), which is sadly expected.

If I could drive, though, I would totally go up to Austin to hang out in places up there. That's really the only place where I can find people to be social with, other than my home city. Both are an hour away, though. Not bad in the car, but terrible on foot.

I think I’m more disturbed by the phrase “techno singing”…. isn’t that an oxymoron? lolFrom one Old Catholic Priest to another, you go Glenn Coco :-)
