Whatever objects they could find

Women are such bitches. When they are firefighters, what they do is, they work along with their colleagues to put out fires. How bitchy is that!

Firefighters on Wednesday, responded to burning garbage receptacles in Meah Shearim. When some of the locals realized one of the firefighters was a woman, they began pelting her with whatever objects they could find. She was injured in her back lightly after being struck with a bottle.

Serves her right. Bitch.

The very first comment there sees this clearly.

There is no shortage of men capable of firefighting. Women are unnecesary and it is untznius for them to do it.

Exactly! Nobody needs women to put out no stinkin fires, and they need to stay indoors so that real people can get on with things.

The Abrahamic religions are certainly misogynistic. I have no idea why any woman would subject herself to any of them.

“If they don’t want a female firefighter, then they can burn.”

Totally! Then, they can burn on earth feeling perfectly comfortable in the knowledge they won’t burn after they’re dead (and I would agree that they won’t burn after they’re dead, but then, I don’t believe in hell, so that’s an easy one for me.)

This might fall under the category of no good deed ever goes unpunished.

That’s the trouble with the Abrahamic cults, particularly the ones still trapped in the Iron Age, all too often the women simply don’t get the choice what they’re subjected to.

The whorish whore will have been wearing trousers, horribly untzniusdig.

No doubt some of her hair was showing too, chas v’sholom a young bochur should witness her ervah, and be distracted from his Toyreh studies, oy NEBECH, NEBECH!

Stone the kurveh, how else will she learn? These haredim are on a higher medrageh than the rest of us, they know what Hashem, ha kodesh baruch hu, wants. Which is, apparently, invisible women.

B”h someone will invent an invisibility burka soon, to hide the innate immodesty of every female over the age of three.

I’m actually kinda sad that the firefighters didn’t use their firehoses on these idiots. At full pressure.

That’s what I was wondering. How did the men on her crew respond?

Ah, see? Religion brings people together! This is just like the morality police in Saudi Arabia not letting girls leave a burning building without their faces covered! Jew and muslims coming together. The menz, at least.

With feigned ignorance, no doubt. It seems to be the preferred reaction of men everywhere when confronted with blatantly sexist behavior by other men. Just a slight percentage of men deciding to speak up rather than remain silent in the face of such assholery would go a long way towards eliminating street harassment like this.

Setting fire to garbage cans seems to be a favourite activity of charedim? Don’t they have garbage pickup in Israel? And what’s this “untznius” shit? is that like “haram”? and why do I have to learn a new language? Oh the questions are endless – fucking endless….

Stories like this make me look up at the sky to make sure I’m still on Earth. Then I take a look at a calendar to make sure it’s still 2012.

Israel. Why am I not surprised? One theocracy is no different than any other.

No! Israel is the one where men where the cute little hair curls on the sides of their face.

    But other than that, yeah.

    untznius

Sorry what? Does someone have a Misogynist->English phrasebook lying around?

  13. Christoph Burschka says

    Ah, okay, I got it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tzniut

I see Tzniut is derived from a Hebrew term for “modesty”, and refers to a religious virtue.

The term is frequently used with regard to the rules of dress for women.

But apparently the “Misogynist” label was close to the mark.

“Tznius” is “modesty”. It’s become twisted, warped, and enforced to ever more ridiculous. levels in the last few years. There are even Tznius Patrols.

Some of the chumrot (stringencies) are almost comedit. For example, hair-covering:

A woman’s hair is “ervah” (nakedness), and must be covered so that no more than a. tefach (two finger-breadth) is showing.

Covering with a shaitel (wig) or tichel (scarf) used to be enough. But… what if it slips and your nakedness is revealed, causing men. to be tempted? Simple! Shave your head the night before your wedding, and wear the shaitel you requested on your wishlist!

Oh but hang on, your $4000 shaitel is made of human hair, and looks incredibly convincing. What if, chas v’sholom (heaven forbid), it leads a man to sin through having impure thoughts?

Oh of course, double cover! Wear a hat or tichel over your shaitel, so that you’re obviously covering!

Trust me, it gets even worse than that. The ritual impurity laws are appalling.

    I just love this comment, from Ophelia’s original link to the story;

Oh, it’s so nice to see Israelis looking to Saudi Arabia as their model for civil rights. I knew Jews and Muslims could agree on something!

    Yes! Somebody gets it.
