Comedian Denis Leary is a frequent guest on The Daily Show. It is clear that he and Stewart have a long friendship dating back to before they were famous and their exchanges have the teasing quality of good friends relaxing together, though Leary’s humor has always had a slightly edgier quality. I quite often skip the celebrity interviews but enjoy Leary’s appearances.

Yesterday was the last day of Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show and it was an extended program that avoided becoming overly sentimental because it is clear that Stewart does not like to talk about himself. I will definitely miss him but I understand why he is leaving and the timing of his exit.

While all of us have laughed at the weird things that some of the people in the field pieces (where the correspondents go out and interview them) have said on The Daily Show, the question has been raised as to whether they really could be that crazy or whether there has been some heavy editing done to make them look ridiculous.

Howard Kurtz on his show on Fox News once again brings up the idea that by going to the White House twice, Jon Stewart has proved that he is a stooge for president Obama. Kurtz should have known better because there is nothing that seems to get Stewart’s energy up than taking Fox News hypocrisy and flinging it back in their faces and he has a grand old time here, showing Kurtz how a takedown should be done and in the process revealing Kurtz’s own hackery.

On the latest episode of his show Last Week Tonight John Oliver looks at the history of how the residents of the District of Columbia ended up without many of the basic electoral rights that the rest of the nation enjoys, the way that Congress interferes with and overrides its decisions, and the feeble excuses given for maintaining the status quo.
You must listen to the song sung by the children at the end, beginning at the 15:30 mark. It is hilarious.
