Samantha Bee talks about the latest obsession of right wingers and Republicans, that men are becoming less manly and more effeminate and that something needs to be done quickly to reverse the trend or the human race will die out. Or something like that. And one suggestion that they are advocating is a real doozy. She is all in favor of them going ahead and doing it.
I think that it would be far more productive for these men to stop worrying about their sperm counts and whether their genitals are getting enough red light and instead investigate why they are so insecure about their masculinity.

I just rolled my eyes so hard I saw my frontal lobe.
Saw the headline and thought the article was going to be about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s testimony.
So… “conservative” and “nuts” already had connotations for me but this was not one of them.
I’m conflicted. On the one hand, I want them to keep doing it. It should lower their sperm count and make for fewer terrible fathers. On the other hand I want to find a way to link this to bodily autonomy so it can be thrown in the face of anti-abortion fanatics.
Speaking on behalf of all less than manly men -especially those that cry during Pixar movies or watch love is blind with their spouse, it would really upset us to see them go ahead and do this.
Who is he talking about? Who would consider Carlson and his viewers to be “open-minded”?

Given how right wingers define manliness this is good news.
I’m not a urologist, but I would think that a minor reduction in sperm production would be pretty irrelevant since sperm are so spectacularly overproduced. Swan, above, claims a 50% reduction in average sperm production in the last forty years. Not to minimize the effect of endocrine disrupters, but that is still plenty to cause pregnancy.
The so-called feminisation of men is a separate issue that is such a personal and political landmine field that I don’t even know how one could have a discussion about the benefits or drawbacks of it, if indeed it is happening at all by some definition.
Sperm count among all men, worldwide, has been decreasing since the 1940’s, or at least that was when it was first detected. Testosterone levels, which is what this freakout is about, are not one-to-one correlated with sperm count. They’re only going down in men with underlying conditions such as obesity and diabetes.
As to why the worry about lack of masculinity, that’s a characteristic of the fascistic outlook.
Huh. The video became age restricted since this post went up. I’m not sure that’s entirely appropriate. Maybe to keep the toxic masculinity away from minors? The roasted nut jokes are kind of obvious juvenile humor so that can’t be it.
