Surprise move by the Trump organization

A right wing, anti-Muslim group called Act for America decided to hold a fund-raising cocktail party and dinner at Donald Trump’s Florida resort Mar-a-Lago on November 7, charging people $1,500 or more to attend. Constantly frothing-at-the-mouth hatemonger Michelle Malkin was to be the keynote speaker.

This seemed like a win-win for both sides. The group got to curry favor with Trump by sending money to his family coffers, which by now is the well-known method of gaining his favor and attention and is known to all manner of foreign governments and lobbyists, and Trump and the bigots in his base would benefit, since nothing pleases them more than targeting non-white, non-Christian groups and riling up liberals.

But then in a surprise turn of events, Mar-a-Lago canceled the fundraiser. This has naturally infuriated the group and right-wingers generally, though they are trying to blame the cancellation on people other than Trump, no doubt for fear of offending the Dear Leader.

By Sunday, though, the Trump Organization had canceled the event—apparently in the face of coverage connecting Mar-a-Lago to the anti-Muslim statements made by ACT for America and its founder, Brigitte Gabriel, who claimed in 2007 that practicing Muslims “cannot be loyal citizens of the United States.”

“This event will absolutely not be taking place at Mar-a-Lago,” a Trump Organization spokesperson told The New York Times.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Gabriel blamed the cancellation on “Trump attorneys” and tweeted that the cancellation would cost her group “a large portion of our operating budget.”

“Regrettably, the Trump attorneys in New York caved to the Left’s bullying tactics and made a decision to cancel our event within hours of the articles coming out,” Gabriel said in a statement.

The Trump Organization’s role in the cancellation put Malkin and other Trump supporters who are typically eager to accuse the left of attacking free speech in an awkward position. So instead of risking running afoul of the president, they blamed “cancel culture,” the idea that liberals silence their critics by citing their earlier remarks.

The “Left’s bullying tactics” have so far not only been singularly unsuccessful with changing Trump’s mind, it is even eagerly sought by Trump ‘s team since it pleases his base to be lambasted by liberals. So what exactly is going on here? I am baffled.

Also hilarious is Malkin’s complaint that it appears that “not even Mar A Lago is a safe space”. I thought that ‘safe spaces’ were what those snowflake liberals wanted and that tough-minded conservatives scorned?

Whenever I come across Malkin’s name anywhere, I cannot help but recall the hilarious video below that she herself posted back in 2007, when she was trying to gin up support for the Glorious Iraq Adventure that had turned into a disastrous and prolonged war. When you realize that she made this not when she was an adolescent but as a 37-year old adult, it makes you wonder about her ability to be taken seriously.

Ah, good times!

I took her ‘dance’ moves as flag semaphore signals spelling out the word ‘loser’. I was not aware that it may have the deeper meaning you saw in them.
