The claims by so-called ‘terrorism experts’ on Fox News that there were no-go zones for non-Muslims in Paris provoked both amusement and anger. Amusement took the form of a French satirical news show Le Petit Journal poking fun at Fox News while the anger took the form of the mayor of Paris threatening to sue the TV channel. I am not sure how serious she was. Such a suit would be unlikely to win in the US but I am not sure of French laws.
Meanwhile Le Petit Journal continues to have fun (see here for their earlier show), this time with a clip of ‘Fox News’ sending out reporters to visit these dangerous zones and who were terrified by what they saw.
Scrap that unlikely. There have been at least 1 lawsuit like that in the US and the verdict was that news channels do not have to tell the truth.
Fox News also named Birmingham as a no-go zone. Maybe they should interview Ozzy Osbourne about what it was like to grow up in there. Black Sabbath and half of Led Zeppelin came from there.
It is very important for the GOP fable that Europe is perceived as a ‘socialist hell’ with crippling taxes, immigrants running wild, and enterprise stifled by regulations.
This is like the North Koreans asserting that South Korea is a capitalist slave state crippled by poverty and bereft of human rights and dignity.
In both cases the people asserting the claim need for it to be seen to be true to justify their own indiscretions.
