We wouldn’t have these problems. Everyone has to see that Trump is insane, right?
He’s picking a trade war with Canada, our ally and partner. <a href=”https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/national-international/trump-lake-ontario-lake-america-name-change-trade-war-canada-escalates/6539930>Canada is retaliating. We’re going to feel it in the form of toilet paper shortages soon. If he doesn’t get his way, he’s threatening to demolish the Kennedy Center — and he’ll do it, just like he tore down the East Wing. Most petty of all, he threatens to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America. Since when does the US president have authority over geography? He doesn’t.
These events are just the latest in his history of idiotic, self-defeating policy decisions by an incompetent bully. When will it become obvious to the other branches of the so-called distributed balance of federal power? Oh, wait, they know. The Senate and Supreme Court are enabling it.
But we really have to blame the American voter. Latest example: they’ve made Darline Graham* the Republican nominee to replace her dead brother. She’s not qualified. Her only ‘virtue’ is blood, and she got elected solely because she’s a member of the tribe. That tribal thinking is what’s going to get more Republicans elected in November.
We are so screwed.
*My mother’s name was Darlene, with an “e”. I’m not happy to see it dragged through the news attached to that smooth-brained Southern dingleberry.

If all the other potential nominees were also Republicans, I don’t think any of them would be considered qualified either.
The Lake Ontario thing is because Doug Ford hurt his fee-fees. I say: Good on Doug Ford! (Which is something I say very rarely).
Sponge Don Square Pants seems to have gotten even more vindictive as of late. This whole escalated conflict with Canada is ridiculous. And demolish the Kennedy Center over his unwarrantedly inflated ego? That’s vicious!
Say what you will about the hopefully one-off Freedom 250 GP IndyCar race. It at least set the stage for a purported tiff between Square Pants and Melania. Something maybe regarding Natalie Harp…not sure. Remember when the Republicans were scrutinizing real estate transactions and found an intern? Where are those moralizing witch hunters now?
Anyway the race itself was ok. The course was a bit messy with unintentional speed bumps and such. A bit longish. Leftish Bluesky jumped all over it.
I preferred the NASCAR Anduril 250 which took place on a navy base around San Diego. That one had actual legit excitement even though I dislike NASCAR far more than IndyCar.
I keep hearing how much the taxpayers were footing the bill for the IndyCar race some confused with F1 (Lando won that one!). Not so sure. Allegedly Penske footed much of the bill except maybe local law enforcement:

I wonder how much revenue it brought into the capital despite inconvenience and disruption for residents.
I watched on Fox via rabbit ears. They kept interrupting the commercials with the race and had Square Pants try to wave a green flag. Duffy waved the checkers. The alpha and omega were both emetic. They briefly distracted from the race to interview Melania. Cringe!
I still managed to put my political disgust aside and tried to focus on a race that was easily more exciting than the Monaco GP (very low bar), yet lacked the aesthetic backdrop. High tech racecars and DC architecture is a bit of a jarring juxtaposition.
Would be confusing, since there is already an American lake near Tillicum, Washington.
I hope he can keep it for another 10 weeks, for maximal electoral impact.
Then Kamala Harris would be POTUs now.
Lake America?
Broken, dry, paint-peeled algae filled Washington Reflecting Pool America more like.
We should change the name of the Reflecting Pool to Lake Trump and no longer provide any maintenance or cleaning.
Dumpster has always been a spoiled brat. Now he’s a senile spoiled brat in declining health. I wish he would go to sleep…forever.

You missed one of his worst mistakes two days ago.
Trump threatened to use the US military to invade the US Treasury bond market.
Trump is senile.
The bond market is a global digital market, much of which is in the USA and involves US citizens.
It is literally impossible to use the US military to intervene in the bond market.
He is confused here and has forgotten what Treasury bonds and the bond market actually are.
As someone noted on Bluesky a day or so ago, we are watching the collision of malignant narcissism with senile dementia.
This is only going to get worse and probably quite rapidly.
We’ve already got the expensive war with Iran that we have already lost and given up on.
The inflation gauge came in at 3.3.% this morning, which shows we are losing the war on inflation.
US Treasury bond interest rates are rising rapidly, which shows we are losing the war on high interest rates and this effects the entire economy such as house and auto loans.
So far, Trump and the GOP have wrecked Iran, parts of the Persian gulf Arab nations, the US economy, the White House, and the USA.
Everything Trump touches dies.
What else are we going to lose next?
Yesterday I refreshed the YouTube subscription page and a video announcement of Dolly Parton’s death appeared. Maybe someday soon I’ll wake up to the radio saying, or refresh the subscription page, and encounter an announcement that the orange has ceased to exist. I’ve heard it suggested that the ceasing of orange would be the first time that the entire world celebrated (or at least commemorated) the ceasing of a specific person.
[May as well match them nonsense for nonsense.]
Ooops, wrong thread.
While not all of Trump’s selected House & Senate candidates have been elected in the primaries, it still seems like his picks usually get selected.
Remember the good old days when it was the wealthiest business owners in each state who selected who the reps in congress would be–them was the days.
The trade war with Canada has been interesting to watch from this side of the border, and Trump seems to have no idea just how much he’s united Canadians against him. There’s a reason Poilievre was trying to subtly get Trump to shut up during our last election, because he saw that his closeness to Trump was a liability in an election that otherwise he had every expectation of winning due to the unpopularity of the Liberals at the time. Carney isn’t really even centre-left, he’s pretty much what we used to call a ‘Red Tory’, someone who takes the old ‘fiscally conservative, socially liberal’ attitude and actually tries to make it work. (There used to be a lot of Red Tories in the Conservative party, back when they were still ‘Progressive Conservatives’, but there haven’t been as many since the Reform/Alliance essentially took over and started wearing the skin of the Conservative Party.)
Canada went into this definitely willing to make changes to add stability, including to some things such as dairy handling that had previously been relatively ‘sacred cows’ in previous negotiations. But you had American businesses trying to push an end to bilingual packaging requirements (which was always going to be a non-starter, Quebec would throw an absolute fit if that were even on the table) and Secretary of Commerce Lutnick undermining Trade Representative Greer during negotiations by insisting on things like high tarriffs on trucks that Greer was smart enough to know wouldn’t fly.
Fundamentally, though, the core of the breakdown seems to be that nobody would give any sort of assurance that Trump wouldn’t just scrap the deal on a whim like he’s been trying to do to the previous one (which Trump signed himself during his first term). Hence Carney commenting about the U.S. ‘signing treaties in pencil’. You can’t make a deal with somebody who doesn’t actually recognize and stand behind the deals he’s made, and Trump is just a basically untrustworthy person and getting worse at it.
@16: I’ve never read The Art of the Deal (why on earth would I want to?), but there must be an appendix where he says “….and the last step is to turn around the next day and go back on everything you just agreed to. Sucks to be those losers.”
FYI the province of Ontario is named after the lake, not the other way around.
The last time I saw a digital copy of a US map because I was looking to see if my friends and family would get hurt by one more example of the Climate Disaster, I saw that the Gulf of Mexico was misnamed. So yes, I do think he can change Lake Ontario.
If he does change the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” I hope Google and Apple don’t go along with it like they did with the “Gulf of America” bullshit. Is there another comparably useful map app out there?
@19: He can order the name change, and presumably US government agencies have to go along with it in all official documents, and cowardly corporate ass-kissers will follow suit. But the rest of the world can laugh and ignore it. I suggest that the Government of Canada rename the Salish Sea or some other shared body of water that US-bound ships have to sail through to Donald-Trump-Can-Kiss-Our-Ass Sea. And instruct maritime traffic control to insist on that exact term when communicating with ships.
