I picture David Futrelle capering gleefully right now: he has so much blog fodder falling out of the sky from the Aurini/Owen breakup. He’s posting some of the comments from misogynist fans, and a hilariously angry interview with Aurini. And now I’m all out of popcorn.
I’ve been reading the Ferguson report. It’s a horror. Every page documents an appalling violation of the whole purpose of having a police force: these people weren’t there to serve and protect, they were there to skim off as much cream from the community as they could. This wasn’t a police department, it was a racist extortion racket, oozing corruption.
We had a blizzard this week. It’s bitterly cold right now. I was trying hard to think of good reasons to have left the Pacific Northwest, and this is about the only thing I came up with: Devil’s Club.
His trial on charges that he’s been willfully trying to interfere with the forfeiture of his properties (which was part of his sentence) started this week. The Pensacola News Journal has an account. Not much has happened yet, and they’re expecting two weeks of proceedings.
At 5pm Pacific time tonight, BlogTalkRadio will have a discussion between Alan Boyle, Seth Shostak, and Don Lincoln on Aliens! Shostak is the SETI guy, whose latest book is Confessions of an Alien Hunter: A Scientist’s Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence

There’s an effort to get Lego to put out an HMS Beagle kit. It’s beautiful! All you have to do now is go vote for the Beagle (no cost!), and if it gets enough support, they’ll come out with a set and instructions to build it.
There’s a campaign in progress to put a woman’s face on the $20 bill. It’s about time! Look at all the masculine faces in your wallet — I had to look it up, but apparently a woman has graced our paper money only once in our entire history: Martha Washington, on the $1 silver certificate, way back at the end of the 19th century.
According to Malcolm Gladwell, that means I can do open heart surgery! Any volunteers?
