Der Stieglitz Beglimpst

I believe I’ve mentioned I almost never see goldfinches.  It’s been years since I got a definitive eyeball on one.  Well, I recently saw one in non-breeding colors, clambering all over some evening primrose, for whatever it likes to eat off of that.  Not the most exciting bird in the universe, but I was very happy to see it.

EDIT to add:  I came up with the title of this post without consulting translation.  “Der Stieglitz beglimpst” ain’t real deutschy sprachin’ any more than the rest of the foolery in this sentence, but it seems that if it was, it would mean the bird noticed me.  It did not.  I was just evoking a related archaic english construction “beglimpsed,” which is me seein’ bird.  👀  I understand my flavor of linguistic chicanery is resistant to understanding; apologies.

Congrats on beglimpzen die steiglitz. (Der,das,?)
They eat seeds, like most finches. They especially enjoy thistle and sunflower, and do tend to be very shy.

I find the Gerglish sprech amusing, but it begs the question why there is no gelb in the Vogel.
Steig is usually a path up a mountain, though it can mean rise. Little risers?
