Three women, by their bravery and strength of purpose, have not only shown the world the true nature of the violent thug Vladamir Putin but have also shown how shallow and hypocritical is the Russian Orthodox Church.
Prior to the sentence, the fat old men in dresses who lead the Church were condemning Nadezhda, Maria and Yekaterina for their ‘blasphemy’ and calling for them to receive maximum jail sentences. Now, these same fat old men are crying that the state should be lenient.
In Russia, like so many countries in the world, religion and the State now go hand in hand, supporting each other but also desperately trying to appear separate. With the Pussy Riot trial this ghastly misuse of power has been stripped to the bone. Never before has the world seen and condemned such an evil symbiotic relationship between unbridled political power and the childish beliefs of the religious.
It is time secularism was installed throughout the world. It would not eradicate murderous thugs like Putin but it would remove one layer of power that has destroyed its right to existence by its own hypocritical utterances.
