One thing I noticed in today’s torrent of news: Apparently, some high ranking French imams not only condemned the killings, but stated that the victims of this atrocity are “martyrs for the freedom of speech”. This is better than I had hoped for. In the previous Mohammed cartoon controversies, there was too much of “death threats are bad, but …”. The omission of the “but” part is refreshing, and a good sign.
