Soonish I’m going to be updating the blog’s layout. I don’t terribly dislike the current one, but I want 1) three columns instead of two and 2) a slightly wider column for where the actual posts go. I’m going to keep it minimalistic and have the same banner with cute mini-Jen typing away. I’m thinking about this layout, but I’m not sold on it. Any suggestions what I should or should not do before I go changing things? Any special widgits you want to see included, any layouts you think I’d like, etc…now’s your time to throw in your two cents.

The test template you linked too seems okay, though (just me) I'd shrink the sidebars' width just a smidget.
I'd have two tips (or, heh, cents) to convey:
1 – If you like this current template but just want some changes here and there instead of absolutely wanting a whole new design, you could just try finding, and then tweaking, the specific details you'd like to change. You mentioned changing the width of the main column whilst adding another sidebar; that would be easily manageable, along with anything else.
2 – If I may be so bold, I'd like to offer my services. 'Cuz you see, I'm bored anyway, so the more I get to do, happier I am. Heh. Anything you'd like to do, as long as it's not over-the-top complicated, I'd probably be able to do for you if you like.
Either way, can't wait to see the finished result of what you have in mind for your next updated template. =)

No widgits I'd like to see, but maybe some widgets would be nice, Jen. :P
I like the triple column, especially if you can make your second and third column nearly equal in length. You may want to consider updating your blogroll as well, I see some haven't updated in like 6 months.
Remember that people read in an F formation, so they read the things in the top right quadrant first, then move to the left, then down. So use the top spots on both columns for important things, like Blag Hag Swag and Twitter; put the archives and blogrolls lower down.
Yes, I know a bit about this stuff.

Nothing wrong with whitespace, imo. Renders easily. of course, if I were to expand my ff window to take up the full res, I'd say the same.

How about this? It's just the current layout with another sidebar, though I'd prefer both sidebars on the right…

Looking better!
Now, let's see…I really don't like the extra toolbar on the left. It's unnecessary, and putting info dead in the middle isn't where I want to naturally look for information.
If you go with a wider-style, you're going to be upsetting people who read on an iPhone or Palm Pre or whatever they do, simply because the smaller screens won't show the wider res. Not everyone is running a 24" monitor (like yours truly).
I guess the question is…what the hell do you want, not what we want. Not many readers are gonna run from the site.

I'm on a 22" monitor, so all the white space drives me nuts. I guess I just want an extra sidebar so more information is up at the top of the page. I can't see that many people scrolling all the way down to look at that stuff. And I want my main column just a little wider so I can link to YouTube videos without them spilling over (just 50 extra pixels needed).
And do people on iPhones look at the actual website instead of just an RSS feed reader? That seems odd to me.

Yes, most modern larger-screen phones have fully functional web-browsers. RSS-only phones are a thing of the past.
I, also, am on a 22" screen. Not right now, I'm on the 20" iMac at work. At home, though, it's dual screens. I never use windows in the full screen though – minimizes whitespace, and I am too used to the Mac to really like having full-screen everything.
ANYWAY. Enough rambling.
Putting more information at the top is a good idea. As I said, people read in an F pattern. They read the top two things on the right, then go left, then follow the main column down the left. So putting columns on the right is good. It lets you get more info that you want at the top.

pps, as a temporary fix, open up the settings, and go to Template, then Edit HTML, and find this:
/* Content———————————————– */@media all { #content { width:660px; margin:0 auto; padding:0; text-align:left; } #main { width:410px; float:left; } #sidebar { width:220px; float:right; } }@media handheld { #content { width:90%; } #main { width:100%; float:none; } #sidebar { width:100%; float:none; } }
And replace it with this:/* Content———————————————– */@media all { #content { width:720px; margin:0 auto; padding:0; text-align:left; } #main { width:460px; float:left; } #sidebar { width:220px; float:right; } }@media handheld { #content { width:90%; } #main { width:100%; float:none; } #sidebar { width:100%; float:none; } }

It's looking good so far. I'd push the store up to the top on the right, but I do like it. It might need to be about 10px wider; the tips of the "subscribe to" boxes are cut off.

It won’t be wrong to say that the IT sector has made the world stand up and take notice of the countries like India. India’s IT poweress is one reason why such massive deals like the Tata Chorus deal and the Hindalco Novelis deal could get shape and turn into India’s favor. Had it not been for the IT sector, there were chances that these multi million dollar deals would not have matured the way they have. http://www.infysolutions.com/resources/resources.html
