New congress marches on to renewed war on women

After pundacious epiphanies and promises to the largest non minority voting block to change, and after crying plaintively about the dire political consequences of fooling around with women’s’ health, members of the new congress are right back at it:

HuffPo — House Republicans are so eager to strip federal family planning funds from Planned Parenthood that two of them have introduced identical bills to do so in the first days of the new Congress.

Tennessee Reps. Marsha Blackburn (R) and Diane Black (R) separately reintroduced a bill during the first two days of the 2013 legislative session that would prohibit Title X family planning grants from being awarded to any organization that performs abortions. The bill, first introduced by former Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) in the 112th Congress, primarily targets Planned Parenthood, which receives about $340 million a year in Title X funds for non-abortion health and family planning services. Both bills amend Pence’s original bill to include exceptions for rape, incest and to protect the life of the mother.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, there will be more incursions, all by self professed small government conservatives fighting tooth and nail to exercise complete government mandated control over the most intimate, private matters faced by more than half the electorate over the course of their lives. It doesn’t matter if it’s a proven loser and plays into the war on women, like the scorpion and the frog, it’s their nature.

Who do they think they are? Texas politicians??!!

For every dollar our clown posse here took away from Planned Parenthood, the estimates are that about $3 will go to pregnancy and birth expenses for low-income women who relied on PP for their birth control.

Yeah, the party of small government and fiscal responsibility. Like hell……

I find it fascinating that the representatives that introduced these bills are both women. My guess is that they will use that as an argument that the bills are not anti-women. “How can the bill be anti women? WOMEN introduced them!”

Well, with any luck, they’re just cutting their own metaphorical throats.
