If you want to go someplace where you can decompress and not get hassled by knuckleheads, I would recommend any of the Scandinavian countries. Mostly atheists here. I think the welfare states and relative absence of poverty provides a sence of security, and thus no need for invisible friends looking out for you.
Even the priests and bishops are pretty laid-back. Gay people can be priests, too, at least here in Sweden.

I am ashamed that this so called secular nation , India, so afraid to antagonize the fundamentalists, gave you hard time on visa issues. Secular minded Indians should have forced rather demonstrated to make sure you should have a permanent residence with possible citizenship.
