Whenever I attend a play by William Shakespeare or just read it, I have to confess that I only understand about 60%. This does not prevent me from enjoying the performance or getting the gist but the lack of complete understanding does leave me with the sense that I am enjoying it less that I might. Of course, I could take the trouble to study up the play before I attend but that seems like too much work.

The 2015 Rugby World Cup is currently underway in England. Of the sixteen original teams that qualified, Australia, Wales, South Africa, Scotland, New Zealand, Argentina, Ireland and France made it to the knockout rounds. Host nation England was eliminated and Japan, despite a sensational upset win over South Africa in their opening pool game, just barely failed to make the next round despite having the same won-loss record as South Africa and Scotland.

I have linked before to flash mobs where musicians appear to spontaneously arrive at a location and perform in public spaces to the delight of people who just happened to be passing by. Here is another case of a flash mob, but this involved dancers in a New York City pedestrian crossing.

Peeple is a new app that as soon as you learn what it does, you realize it was inevitable and wonder why it had not been created sooner. It is like Yelp but except that instead of the general public reviewing and rating businesses, Peeple lets you rate individuals.

Yesterday the Cleveland Indians lost to the Minnesota Twins and were eliminated from contention in the baseball playoffs. This is great news because as long time readers know, I utterly detest their racist Chief Wahoo mascot and as long as they retain it, I hope they lose badly year after year.

I come from a bridge-playing family. My father, mother, older sister, and I would spend many evenings at home in Sri Lanka playing the game. My mother and sister were excellent players of championship quality, and would later go on to regularly win national and international titles. My father and I were nowhere near their class and when we partnered each other would regularly receive thorough drubbings at the hands of my mother and sister.

I hate shopping. When I have to do it, my goal is to make it as quick as possible and that usually means buying what I have always bought at the same store where I bought it before. What frustrates me is when that item seems to be no longer being produced and I have to then try and find a replacement.

Bertie is now the world’s fastest tortoise. He was clocked at 0.28 meters per second, easily smashing the previous world record of 0.125 meters per second that had stood since 1977. Bertie’s story as told in this video is a heartwarming one.
