The late night talk shows I watch were no fans of Lindsey Graham and I was curious as to how they would treat the news of his death. They obviously would not want to make fun of it but at the same time would not want to pretend that he was an admirable person.
I though Jon Stewart managed to deal with it pretty well by turning it into a discussion of how geriatric the US Congress is.
It may be that Graham’s love of being on TV hastened his demise. When he complained on Saturday of not feeling well, people suggested that he go to the hospital but he said that he was due to be on Meet The Press on Sunday morning and did not want to miss that and would go after it. It is not clear if the tear in his aorta could have been detected and treated if he had gone to the hospital earlier.

The thing is, having watched that, I didn’t laugh.
Oof, that clip of Carter. He was clearly reading (or at least trying to follow the bouncing finger) from a prepared statement and yet he still got confused and couldn’t remember how to pronounce words.
re Ridana@2: I wonder if he even comprehended what he was reading. I can imagine someone swapping his notes out for some South Park gibberish and him still just slogging through the read.
Seth Meyers addressing this, and many other news after a 3-week hiatus.
In Trump weeks, that is about six months of news!

Also, I recently had a free untrasound scan of a large blood vessel in the stomach tract because statistically, that is a danger for elderly men. I realised how privileged I am to live somewhere where an ordinary Joe gets looked after as a matter of routine.
And I wish ordinary Americans could have the same.
birger, thanks for your kind wishes. It is what Americans need most (after not becoming a fascist dictatorship), and the amount of suffering that comes from not having it is immense.
I think that, when I’m older, I may be driven to leave America just to be able to get any medical care, because I’m not rich enough to get it here.
As for Graham, he actually was one of the *better* ones! When Trump came along, Graham actually called him out as the thieving psychotic liar that he is.
Graham’s subsequent switch into the most boot-licking, spineless, Trump-worshipping toady-ism was one of the most despicable things I’ve ever seen, because he’d proven that he knew just how bad Trump really is.
So, no matter how Graham started about Trump, he ended despicably.
And, as for Mitch McConnell…

He was definitely finger-reading, i.e. the thing learner readers do. And he has authorities greater than almost all people in America.
