Hi Mano. If you don’t mind, what was Christmas like as a kid in Sri Lanka?
Merry whatever and happy New Year!

Take it back one step further. Why were all these pagan gods born around Dec 25? Because their birth dates were conveniently arranged on the southern solstice. It has since drifted a bit from the actual solstice due to pre-Gregorian calendar inaccuracy.

Christmas in Sri Lanka for a child would be much like that in the US, with nativity scenes, Santa Claus, carols, parties, lights, and presents. Although Christians were just 5% of the population, the holiday was celebrated more widely.

My true Christmas is visiting The Great Dickens Fair in the Cow Palace in Daly City as many times as possible. Covid 19, and the wastes of oxygen who refuse to get vaxxed, have stolen my Christmas two years in a row (yes, I know they did a drive-thru event this year, and I did go, but it isn’t even close to the same thing).
In any case, Merry Solstice to all!

Axial tilt is the reason for the seasons! Merry Kitzmas, Merry Newtonmas, Happy Solstice, Happy Saturnalia, and good luck JWST!
