Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019)

I have long been a fan of comedian Zach Galifianakis’s online sketch show Between Two Ferns where he passive-aggressively, and sometimes outright insultingly, interviews celebrity guests. Here is one sketch where he interviews Ben Stiller.

It appears that they have made a film version of it that will be released on Netflix on September 20.

It is often the case that sketch comedy does not translate well into the long form version, so we’ll have to see how this turns out.

But here’s the trailer.

Hmmmm I’m not confident of this one. The water sprinkler gag in the trailer makes this look like… yet another generic Hollywood comedy, the sort that Adam Sandler might produce.

  2. John Morales says

Yeah. Had I not been informed it was comedy, I would not have known.

    Not my style.

(In what manner it is supposedly funny, I can not fathom. But it is deadpan, until the end)

I like Galifianakis, though he can be hit-and-miss. I thought the trailer was quite good.

Very unfunny comedians/comic actors, IMO: Dan Aykroyd, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell. Really, how anyone thinks Carell especially is funny is totally beyond me.
