I have never seen the appeal of professional wrestling because violence, even if simulated, makes me cringe so I never watch it. Also, even with scripted fights, there is real wear and tear on the body and actual injuries. The scandal of professional wrestling is not that the whole thing is faked because everyone knows that. It is that the wrestlers are treated like dirt by the monopolistic WWE and its owner Vince McMahon that results in many of them dying young and poor, as John Oliver points out in this expose.

Vince McMahon is Donald Trump if he was successful.

Not everybody. I had a neighbor once who got incensed when I said something about wrestling being fake and scripted. He was ready to fight me. His logic was that, after all, the wrestlers bleed.

There’s a former wrestler turned comedian the UK who makes the crucial distinction: Pro wrestling is *planned*. Its not faked. There’s a script and a known outcome, and it’s a performance… But it’s hard and dangerous, potentially *more* dangerous than fighting for real.

Have you seen this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6pRbwu4Pf0

larpar @4: I had not seen that before. I guess it is terrible when your worldview is crushed.

I saw The Scorpion King, starring Duane “The Rock” Johnson. It was a fairly entertaining “swords and sandals” adventure.

Fun fact drken, Vince McMahon and Donald Trump are close enough that president idiot put Linda McMahon in charge of Small Business Administration.

@ColeYote #7:
They’ve been friends for years and Donald Trump is in the WWE Hall of Fame for hosting the first 2 Wrestlemanias as well as his various on camera appearances. But, Vince McMahon is everything Donald Trump wishes/thinks he is. He’s smarter, he’s a much better businessman, and he married a woman smart enough to run the boring, white collar side of his company that he’s been married to for ~50 years. However like Trump, he’s done it all while being an absolutely garbage human being. And say what you want about Linda McMahan (such as she only got her present job by donating $750,000 to the Trump Foundation) she’s been one of the very few Trump appointees who actually looks like they’re interested in doing their job (before recently resigning). Also, his kids (and son-in-law) are smarter and harder working than Trump’s. You think Erik or Don Jr. would throw themselves off a 13 foot steel cage they way you watched Vince’s son Shane do in that video? Not bloody likely. Don’t get me wrong, he’s objectively a terrible person. Oliver’s piece on him only scratches on the myriad examples of horribleness that is the story of Vince McMahon. There’s much worse out there.
