My predictions about Obama

While searching for an old post, I came across two other old posts from back in January 2009 on the eve of Barack Obama’s inauguration, where I predicted what we could expect from him during his term in office. I do not have the best record in making political predictions, to put it mildly, but in reading over them now, I seem to have been pretty accurate at least on the domestic front.

But I was far too optimistic on what we could expect on foreign affairs. When it came to the latter, my hope was that he would get the US out of the military conflicts started by George W. Bush Iraq and Afghanistan and help rebuild those countries that we had shattered. But we are still there, those countries are still suffering, and in addition Obama has helped create chaos in Libya and Yemen and Syria and intensified drone warfare.

If he accomplishes half as much as Jimmy Carter has since 1981, then he’ll be pretty good.
