Not being a fan of the superhero genre, I did not see any of the Spiderman films. I don’t even know if there was more than one but assuming that there were is a pretty safe bet with superhero films. It seems like an X-men film comes out every year and playing Wolverine seems to have become Hugh Jackman’s main occupation.
But I read that this scene from the Spiderman film was not done using CGI. If that’s true, that’s a pretty impressive feat by Tobey Maguire, even if it took 156 takes to get it right.
If that’s true, then yes. Big if.
(heh)
I’m guessing the tray and food were dropped down from something just out of frame, which wouldn’t be all that far. Still, even at a short distance, trying to catch a tray so it’s centered and then not have anything that follows overbalance it would pose a bit of a challenge.
I seem to recall reading that the tray and all the things dropped onto it were sticky.
The completely unnecessary whooshing noises will always bug me.
@Sleeper That makes sense to me. The fact that nothing bounced at all left me dubious. Also, the apple doesn’t roll, and the plate swivels (without bouncing) which seems even more unlikely. I wondered about magnets, but sticky would also work.
Bottom line, for me, it wasn’t worth 150+ takes (including reset time), because it still looks dodgy…
“Hugh Jackman’s main occupation”
Just today I saw him in the sentimental feel good movie Eddie the Eagle -- nice when you’re in the mood. Of course not true, because based on a true story.
The tray was glued to Maguire’s hand. Still pretty impressive though.
“I don’t even know if there was more than one” -- Not only was there more than one, but there was more than one reboot (well, the 2nd reboot will be due this year).
