Have you been wondering whatever happened to evangelist Ray ‘Banana Man’ Comfort? Me neither. At one time he, along with his aging trusty sidekick the Boy Wonder Kirk ‘Crocoduck’ Cameron, went around making the most wondrously idiotic arguments against evolution that had to be seen to be believed.
Well, Comfort is back in the news as he and his followers make fun of the Hindu religion because a statue of Ganesh fell on some devotees in India, killing one and injuring three. On his Facebook page, Comfort said that “The Bible says that those who worship dumb idols, are just like them”. This was picked up by his followers who connected it with the crane recently falling on worshippers in Mecca killing over 100 people, suggesting that for these Christians, tragedies killing worshippers of other gods is simply a sign of their own god’s divine justice.
Not all the comments on Comfort’s Facebook post were favorable, though. One said:
I’ve been begging for a giant pink elephant statue to flatten me for years, so I would no longer have to share this planet with awful people like you, but I’m still alive and well, unfortunately. Hopefully tomorrow is the day.
It never ceases to amaze me the tunnel vision these religious people have. If some tragic accident befalls people who worship some other god, that is a sign of their true god’s disfavor with the practice of worshipping false gods. But if an accident befalls their own god’s devotees, that is never taken as a hint that they might be worshipping the wrong god but instead is interpreted as a kind of test of their faith.
