The Westboro Baptist Church needs no introduction. Their over-the-top anti-gay rhetoric and tactics are the stuff of legend and have raised their visibility far, far beyond what its tiny membership (largely consisting of one family) could reasonably expect. So much so that one wonders if the church is not practicing some kind of performance art. But they face the same problem as the extremists in the Republican party and Playboy magazine in that they have to keep raising the level of outrageousness in order to compete with the alternatives now easily available on the internet. But like the Republican party and unlike Playboy, they have not thrown in the towel. They keep persevering.

For example, they have now gone after meteorologists at the National Weather Center in Norman, OK for “stealing God’s glory” by predicting the weather, saying in a statement:

Westboro Baptist Church will picket the National Weather Service to remind them that ONLY by God’s mercy and power do you gather intelligence on His weather. The day comes when all weather rules, as you know them, will be gone. America crossed the Rubicon when, by force of law, you permitted same-sex marriage.

But that is not all. WBC is also going after Kim Davis. On Monday, they are going to picket her office to demand that she issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Now you may be wondering why an anti-gay church wants to enable same-sex marriage. Surely they should consider a self-righteous anti-gay bigot like Davis to be one of their own? The reason is because the WBC thinks that the US Supreme Court was fulfilling its destiny with it decision to legalize same-sex marriage and thus paving the way for god’s wrath to rain down and destroy the US, and now this pesky county clerk whom they call a ‘fake Christian’ is muddying the waters and likely delaying what they so eagerly desire.

In a statement, the WBC explains why they have it in for Davis.

The Lord willing, Westboro Baptist Church pickets to warn the living! So when God Almighty put a spotlight upon the proud sinners and self-righteous hypocrites Kim Davis and her so-called “supporters”, we must GO, because we follow the Lamb, withersoever he goeth!

As it happened, the Supreme Court of the United States, fulfilling their destiny, made same-sex marriage the law of the land. The duty of all mankind is to OBEY the laws of God and the laws of man. Enter, Kim Davis. Rowan County Kentucky Clerk, with high-dollar salary and digs, she acquired, ONLY after she took an oath to uphold and defend the constitution and the laws. Kim claims that she has lived in proud sin for many years, divorcing and remarrying, not one time or two times, in fact you need a score card to keep track. Her lawyers, being smooth talking fellows say that all that was before her call to salvation two years ago when her current mother-in-law died.

These matters are not hard and unclear. That man that Kim Davis is living with and calling her husband, IS NOT! Her husband is Dwain Wallace, who she married when she was 18-years-old. It does not matter how many years you pile on, it was adultery at the beginning and it was adultery in the middle and it is indeed adultery today!

If Kim Davis received mercy from God and grace, as she claims, she would, with all due haste put her sin away. She would mourn for her sins, and in a show of great mercy, she would be busy apologizing to the fags for enabling them, and she would, with all diligence, give those perverts a marriage license.

That should make their position clear, no?

But the WBC has experienced setbacks. An attempt to picket a Michigan high school because of its election of a trans girl as homecoming queen was met with a large counter-protest by high school students that led to the WBC picketers quickly getting into their minivan and scurrying away.

It must really hurt Davis to be attacked by the WBC of all people. Will supporters of Davis be able to muster the same kind of numbers on Monday or will Davis have to face the WBC alone? Will even Mike Huckabee abandon her in her hour of need, like Peter abandoned Jesus? Stay tuned!
