Maybe you’ve never heard of the Duggar family, but you may have run across their portrait: it’s a fundamentalist family with 15 going on 16 kids. Prof. Bleen has put together a hypothetical picture of the family, if they were living under the creationist theocracy they like so much. It’s not a pretty picture, and I think Bleen was optimistic.
A while back, I mentioned these hate-filled loons in Kansas who were harassing a hotel owner because he was flying a rainbow flag—Pandagon has an excellent summary of the contretemps—in short, he had the flag in memory of his son, the local paper talked up the association of the rainbow with gays, and boy howdy, all of a sudden he was getting boycotted and abused by the community. In the latest news, some Kansas bigot has cut down the flag.

OK, as several have noticed, there is actually a Pharyngula myspace. It’s there as a placeholder, little more, and I’m not planning to do anything with it…but if anyone wants to be my friend, I’m easy.
Will it worsen or improve my appearance of geekitude if I mention I also have a Facebook entry?

The guy who started the interesting discussion about race is Wilkins—so go argue with him. So far, I’m still on his side of the issue—these claims of correlated groups of linked genes tell us something about ancestry and history, but don’t rescue the concept of race at all.
