At least, some stupid people are trying to imagine alien weirdness going on, including this desperate ignorance from Candace Owens, who thinks it’s artificial because it doesn’t melt at 30°F.
I looked at some of the comments. Many are trying to explain to her that the freezing point of water is 32°F, and that 30 is less than 32, and some mention that the temperature in Connecticut when she was horrified by frozen water was actually 25°F. Others are agreeing that yes, it’s a government or alien conspiracy.
Remember this when Candace Owens trots out another bizarre conspiracy theory. I think the lawsuit by Brigitte Macron against her is going to go well.

In a time when it seems like other Twitter clones are trending in the other direction and trying to give OP total control over the thread and who gets to reply to it, Twitter has infrastructure in place that lets rando commenters deflate a dumb propaganda thread before it sprouts legs.

I never got into the habit of reading or using Twitter. I am dimly aware of it at the periphery through PZ’s screencaps, various mentions in other news programs, and the occasional downloaded standalone video. I tried using the various Twitter clones, but I lost interest because I just don’t prefer that style of communication. Thanks for the baseless speculation, though.

The issue with community chat is, of course, GIGO and the same issue as with racist AI’s where interactions between a community of bigots will lead to results that are bigoted and warped whereas a proper fact check by credible experts won’t be. Eg a community filled with Climate Deniers will have Community chat results that reflect their lies, a community full of transphobes will reflect that in their community notes etc..
Oh and there’s a huge difference between being a fan of SpaceX that is owned by Musk but builds rockets and spacecraft that actually work well and being on a platform swamped by nazis
