Illinois has a real winner

The Republicans in Illinois must be desperate — they’re running a creationist, who runs a private school for creationists, against Governor JB Pritzker. This guy, Darren Bailey, is pathetic, and the Pritzker campaign keeps hammering him with dinosaurs.

Were you there? Straight from the mouth of Ken Ham.

Bailey won the Republican primary, which is no surprise, but the polls currently show Pritzker in a comfortable lead, 54-34.

It takes a special kind of lack of self-awareness to not realise that “were you there?” could apply to any religious belief, only more so since they completely lack testable evidence.

(Kudos to followers of Ra, Tonatiuh, K’inich Ahau, Inti, Helios, Grian, etc. etc. Since the Sun can at least be demonstrated to exist)

Isn’t Pritzker that super-rich politician? He can afford to run attack ads until the cows come home. You do not compete against someone like that if you have a weak campaign and a weak set of arguments.
I hope the Republicans have invested a lot of $$$ Bailey’s campaign. 🙂

Also, it is time to re-run the sketch “Jesus arrives 66 million years too early”.
By wossname that British guy who did the Death Star canteen.

@ johnson catman : “Answer that nonsense with more nonsense. “Yes, I was there.”

Or maybe answer with “Were you?”

If they say their God was then ask them how they know – were they there?

andywuk@4 I asked some creationists why “were you there” doesn’t apply to their claims. They claimed their god was there and has given them first hand testimony in the bible. And of course the bible is god’s word and always true because god says so in the bible. At some point, I gave up.
I’m probably not the only one here who did the dance.

Governor Pritzker is one of the good guys with…an elected office.

He has effectively opposed Trump and the GOP fascists from the beginning.

One of the fascists first acts was to attempt to occupy Chicago by calling up the Texas National guard.

The idea here was to terrorize the state of Illinois with our own army and normalize having the US military attack and occupy the USA.

When President Donald Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent 200 Texas National Guard troops to the Chicago area in October 2025 as part of an immigration enforcement operation, it triggered immediate multi-state lawsuits, court blocks, and the troops ultimately returning home before Thanksgiving.

The Court Rulings: U.S. District Judge April Perry blocked the deployment, writing that she found “no credible evidence there is a danger of rebellion” in Illinois. A unanimous three-judge panel on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the block, and the U.S. Supreme Court kept the deployment blocked.

Governor Pritzker has something less common than it should be these days, a backbone.

Basically the same split in Illinois as we are seeing nationally – another sad confirmation that a full 1/3 of our fellow citizens are some combination of mush-brained MAGA / religious fundamentalists who will never be persuaded away from their respective cultish ways of thinking.

The bone fossils were there. They have been dated. The dinosaurs largely disappeared about 70 million years ago, not counting birds etc. But humans only appeared 6 million years ago.
Or, are the Republicans announcing a new policy, that nobody can be convinced of any crime unless there are eyewitness? Sounds like a law favored by the Mafia, too.

Technically, the carbon inside you was there.

I wish USA had more coastlines affected by the post-glacial rebound. It is hard to advocate a creation 4004 BC when every part of the coastal region clearly rose from under the sea after the glaciers melted ten millennia ago.
    .
Hmm… If your state has some big glacial erratics, it makes it easy to show they were transported there by ice. Unless your creationists argue they were thrown there by giants that got annoyed by the sound of church bells, the explanation favoured by medieval priests.

You should’ve ask them if the Bible is God’s Word and God’s “eyewitness” account, then explain the conflicting verses, passages, possible missing text, books arranged out of order, and why are there two versions of the creation story instead of just one, and total lack of evidence confirming the so falsely called “eyewitness” account? And above all, do they even read the Bible at all rather than just repeatedly bleating out creation lies about it or faking it by grabbing the Bible to read (or misread) a short, selective passage?

This is one of the creationists’ absolute favorite ways to deny valid evidence confirming the reality of a billion year old planet and its long history. Relying only on unreliable eyewitness accounts that continuously change and twist about to confuse people and fit their false narratives.

Best example on Dumb Idiot Ken Ham’s children’s “teaching” book D is for Dinosaur: A Rhyme Book and More where it teaches children to deny that the teacher ate the M&Ms candies by not watching the teacher eat the candies while ignoring the stain on the hands and on the teeth and tongue, and chocolate breath billowing out of your mouth, confirming that the teacher ate the candies all along.

I’m betting he’s a young earth creationist. They should really start with “how old is the earth?”
It’s much easier to then ask questions about silt/ice/pond pollen layers and ask if god is trying to deceive by making it look like the earth is very old.

  12. Tethys says

Meh, asking “Were you there?” is a braindead response, but sending dinosaurs to his campaign events is a great strategy.

Everybody enjoys the goofy Dino costumes, and they insure that people will continue to learn this doofus has whackadoodle religious beliefs that impair his reasoning ability. I can only hope that that creationism is going through an inevitable extinction burst.
